Contrail Help

Hi,
Got a few questions about contrails.
Most of my contrail shots are very dark,the sky almost looks
like night time in them. I set the exposure compensation to +2
But the sky still looked dark,the plane was actually a little over
exposed though.Any tips for this?

Also,I got the photo below rejected for bad cropping/bad
contrast. I agree with the bad contrast,but I'm not sure how
contrails should be cropped?I usually have the plane on one side
so you can see the trail through the photo.Should the planes
be centered in the photo?Should the photo be rotated so
the contrail appears to be level?

What are you exposing for? the sky? or the plane?

I usually have the plane on one side
so you can see the trail through the photo.

I think that if you had the plane to one side of the frame with the contrail extending back across the rest off the frame. The plane is indeed overexposed. I would try to get the exposure on the plane right and then just have the sky be dark. it might look cool.

I don't know what Jeff's problem is.

Listen, I was going to explain why you pictures are coming out dark.. remember? That was the question you asked?

I'm fine... it's just his picture that sucks... In my opinion... And will continue to, until he learns the concept of exposure, and how to use it to his advantage.

Maybe all the other "experts" will jump in and help him out.

Hence the concept of this forum,for people that are learning to ask the experienced photographers the "how to's".

To somebody that knows the answer,it may have been a stupid question.But I don't know the answer. I was always taught that the only dumb question was the one you don't ask.

I come here to get advice and constructive criticism,not sarcastic anal replies.If you don't want to help,that's fine.Somebody else will.And if they don't then I'll figure it out on my own.

I really don't understand the problem.

You guys act like it's costing you money for me to ask my stupid questions on this forum.

If you guys start you're own site,I promise I won't post on the forum.
But unless Chris Kilroy asks me to stop,I will continue to ask questions on this one.If my questions are so stupid,then why do you even waste you're time replying?You could spend that time stealing candy from children or something.
