  • Spotting from home allowed?

Hello! I'm a little unsure of whether "backyard" shots are allowed or not since you generally need to specify a location, I looked at the guidelines and couldn't find anything directly related to it. Reason I ask is I frequently have helicopters/GA flyover at ~1,000 ft. which isn't a problem for my 600mm lens. Thanks in advance to any responses!

I think it doesn't really matter that you spot from home as long as the photos you take are good enough to be uploaded here

Of course you can! Ive done so myself as well. Make sure the photo is up to standards (especially sharpening and vignette-wise since those two can be problems when pointing the camera straight up with fast-moving and small helis.)

There is no limitation as to from "where" you can upload a photo - If you take an aircraft in a field in the middle of nowhere, you can still upload. It can even be in the middle of a city if you want to and you find an aircraft there.

To upload shots like those: Select-other Location and specify. For example, if you live sufficiently close to the airfield / airport (next door essentially) - upload as if the picture is directly shot there (using airport code in autofill)

If not, upload the other location as the City or town you are in.

      Here, a few examples:

      1. Photo taken from my home (home-spotting) (far away from the airport): https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/10348177
(Uploaded as: Other Location - Mexico City)

      2. Photo taken 1km away from an airfield, but not exactly there: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/10015793
(Uploaded as if at the airport with a message)

      3. Photo taken inside a 4 floor shopping mall in the buisness district: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9626473
(Uploaded as Other location - City)

      4. Photo taken near the city center: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9921130
      Same as 3....

      You get the idea hopefully!

          Hello!

I shots most of the aircrafts from home.
As Santiago MN said, you can take photos from everywhere.

Here is the examples for about that :

You’re lucky to live somewhere you have that good a view. My last parish was near an airforce base; I loved the jetblast sound.
