    Safety regulations of NON-US Carriers

I received an e-mail from a friend who knows I’m a spotter and aviation enthusiast. Here is the exact text:

    ------
Regulations on foreign carriers - Would you say it's greater or not as much as American carriers. I'm not talking strictly from a safety point of view. Aren't many
    foreign airlines heavily subsidized?
    ------

I feel many people here at jetphotos.net can offer my friend some great answers, better than I. How would you answer him?

Indeed some are, either by tax money, or by the government taking over war risk insurance, for example, which again is tax money. Flag carriers do tend to get government support when their balance sheet gets in disorder.

Security is not really paid for by the government or the airlines, it's paid by you, the passenger, via airport taxes levied for each ticket.

    Regards,
    Peter
