  • Air China retires one of its three remaining Boeing 747-400s

September 6th, 2024 marks a sad day for aviation enthusiasts as Air China retires one of its three remaining Boeing 747-400 passenger jets.

The aircraft, a Boeing 747-4J6 registrated as B-2445 (MSN 25882), had joined the Air China fleet since 1994 and had flown Air China's most important domestic and international routes for 30 years prior to its retirement.

In its last flight, flight CA1425 from Beijing to Chengdu, the aircraft departed Beijing Capital Int'l Airport (PEK/ZBAA) at 11:29 UTC after a two-hour delay and arrived at Chengdu Shuangliu Int'l Airport (CTU/ZUUU) at 13:43 UTC, where the aircraft would be stored.

I don't know how much time is left for B-2447 and B-2472.

The 747-400 has such a rich history and charm. It’s always sad to see these classics retire, especially one that has served for so long.

Yes... Unfortunately, they are being retired...
Also, retiring other old planes (like a Boeing 717) is really sad.

I really want to catch one before it retires.

Managed to fly on 2445 a few years ago. I don’t think the interior had changed since delivery, seats were extremely comfortable!

Hm. Probably you have more success if you tried to catch one of my avatars....

Somebody who seems to be an unknown friend of mine has said, the LH-B744 fleet will be continued at least until the year 2028 (!).

I so very much love this bird!

PS: Eight of them in the air after all these years.

Hm. Our Scandinavian SAS friend seems to not yet have found what he was lookin for. And I must confess one thing, my avatar is not so very often in Copenhagen.

I now could open a whole gallery of jetphotos with B744, only. But I already hear somebody screaming in the distance.. 'jetphotos is only for former 747 Flight Captains' blah blah rabarber,

so, for today, one jetphoto must be enough for the both of us.

As I said, not so very often in Copenhagen:

Dear greetings to the 'Scandinavian SAS land', and Merry Christmas.
