Hm. First of all, your choice for a new topic is brilliant, I couldn't have opened a better topic during the past 12 years which I am here on this platform.
You seem so very shiny and new for such a very special topic.

But nevertheless. I was also.. old enough when I wrote my very first forum entry here. Thank you for this topic!

I could name musicians who I miss since 2004, but airports? I very recently watched TV and it was called 'Eagles, history part I' and 'Eagles, history part II'. But part II ended in 2012, and so it showed the Vice president of The Eagles very alive. Glenn Frey (1948-2016) died after complications with 'rheumatoid arthritis', which affected him since the year 2000. A very bad illness for musicians and pilots. Back then he was only 52, so for me that means, for the next 9 or 19 or 29 years, to keep my bones moving. So, Don Henley today is both, #1 and #2 of The Eagles?

Back on topic. The second thing which I will do, after I read some information about airlines at Sierra Lima Lima Papa, SLLP airport

is, I will ask the jetphotos database. No international airline from North America or from Europe at SLLP today? And only 76 results for SLLP in the jetphotos database. Without that I used a filter, like, show me only Lufthansa, or show me only Avianca. That's not very much.

I know, that one of the very experienced Lufthansa Flight Captains on the 747-200 on youtube says something like .. (roughly translated by me)
'In the 1970s we reached every country in the world with Lufthansa, from Venezuela to Melbourne, Australia, and to Indonesia.'

What he didn't say, or only without the camera, things have changed a little bit since then. So I believe you when you say, Lufthansa once was also in Bolivia.
With my background, favorite airline Lufthansa since more than 35 years, I have found a very new jetphoto, compared to 1979:
D-AIGX. Airbus A340-313X. JetPhotos.com is the biggest database of aviation photographs with over 5 million screened photos online!

That's the El Dorado International airport of Bogota, February 2021. From SKBO you only need one connection flight with Avianca, to your home airport.

But we have a quite young CEO here at Lufthansa (not yet 55), so I'd say, if the demand is there, it is not impossible that LH comes back to Bolivia.
The German long haul is alive, 65 years and still kicking.

And constantly advanced, 744 and 748 /w upper and lower EICAS.

Lufthansa network since 1979... man, I hope you know what you did when you opened this topic..

You will most probably only receive answers by me. If that doesn't bother you. More than once or twice here in this forum I published my thoughts, why am I the only
        jetphotos forum specialist
for Lufthansa. That's not fair, Lufthansa is much too big to be only represented by one man here in this forum. But that hasn't helped, not since the past 12 years..

        So.

Lufthansa Bolivia. Yes. I have asked the internet, and I received a positive answer. There is a German newspaper article which begins like that (in German, translated by me):
'Since August 1982 I was the Lufthansa General Manager Bolivia and Lufthansa Manager for La Paz International airport. We, that was my wife and me, ... ' [...]

What I still wonder, since the last time when I was here in this topic, the distance between Rhein/Main and La Paz International?

Let me find that out. I'm back in a minute.

A little bit more than 5661 nautical miles nonstop to El Alto SLLP . That really is THE typical LH-B744 distance.

The next question is, back then in 1982, what were the a/c types when Lufthansa came in at El Alto SLLP?
You can be sure, within the next 2 or 3 weeks, I'll be able to answer that question.

PS: If you have ever wondered, no, that German newspaper article was neither about me nor about one Lufthansa manager who sometimes appears on TV today. I was 4 years old back then in 1982, and CEO Spohr is always 12 years older than me. So, we are lookin for a LH manager who certainly was 30 or 35 back then in 1982. 1947? Lufthansa executive chairman (dt.: Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender) Mayrhuber was born in that year, but he died 2018.

Hm. Did I say within the next 14 days? In aviation, things happen really fast if you're lucky.

'This is Lufthansa, type Boeing 707, Delta Alpha Bravo Uniform Kilo, at El Alto airport SLLP. We request taxiing to the rwy, IFR to Santiago de Chile.'

.... .... That very very much reminds me of the era of the Lufthansa 4 engined long haul propeller, the LH-L1049 Super Constellation, who since 1955 operated the route
Hamburg - Düsseldorf - Shannon - New York City.

It was so very common that your flight across the pond stopped once or twice, not nonstop, as nowadays. And that happened every day even in the year 1972. Which is not 1979, as you assumed, and not 1982 as I assumed. But hey, the Lufthansa long haul is alive, since more than 60 years!

This LH-B707 was en route from Rhein/Main to New York City to San Juan to Lima to El Alto SLLP to Santiago de Chile and vice versa, September 1972:
2017 Mar 11 - Lufthansa Boeing 707-330B D-ABUK "Bochum" during a stopover at La Paz-El Alto, circa September 1972. Lufthansa flew a return route from Frankfurt to Santiago with stops at New York, San Juan, Lima and La Paz. (Photo: Courtesy of Friends of Lloyd Aereo Boliviano)

Now, that is also a very inspiring route for a Lufthansa 747, an a/c type which "we" fly since April 1970, so, since more than 50 years.

Another thing.. I am not the only aviation enthusiast who says, Boeing has made one or two bad decisions since 1970.

Lufthansa Boeing 707-330B (1963-1984). Such a cute little jet, only 46.6 meters long, but with a range of 4900 nautical miles, since 1958. Nowadays, in the year 2021 Boeing tries to pump up the 737 for the long haul?
Without success, or should I better say, with a fatal result.

Condor Boeing 767-300ER (since 1995). Again, good against the lack of parking positions, only 54.9 meters long, but with a range of 5900 nautical miles, since 1982. Nowadays, in the year 2021 Boeing tries to pump up the 737 for the long haul?
            Without success.

So. One question which probably also CEO Spohr had in his mind, more than once.

When I need a jet, not necessarily as long as a B744 with 70.6 meter, but strong enough to cross the pond, lets say with a range of 4900 nautical miles. And good for more than 200 passengers.

Boeing what can you sell me today, August 2021?

787? A cockpit which nobody has ever seen here at Rhein/Main?

If I had to make that decision, I'd again decide for the B763ER. For airports where the B744 is too long. But in 2004, somebody decided that the A330-300 is the solution, totally incomparable with the B763ER. A 330-300 is 10 meters longer than the 763ER, 63.7 meters long.

Why is the 747 still in the Lufthansa fleet, after more than 50 years. Well. The B744 is only 4 meters wider than an A330-300, wingspan 64.4 . And a B744 is strong enough to cross the pond, lets say with a range of 7000 nautical miles. Here, the 330-300 loses. And good for more than 350 passengers. And I love the B744.

I'd say, Lufthansa loves the 747. Otherwise she wouldn't be here since more than 50 years.
