  • 3-3-3 vs 2-5-2 on the 777

I was wonder what you guys liked best. Personally I like 2-5-2 better, and I can never understand why people say they like 3-3-3 better than 2-5-2 because they don't want to climb over people to use the bathroom. In the 2-5-2 seating only the middle seats have to climb over 2 people, but on the 3-3-3 the window seats on both sides of the plane have to climb over 2 people. With 2-5-2 big familys can sit in the middle 5 seats, and a couple can sit together in the window seat and the seat next to it.

So what seating do you like better and why?

Lockheed introduced this sweet seat arangement on the L1011-500

      3x4x2

2x5x2 is good only if you dont end up in the middle seat of the 5 set. My father had to sit in the middle for 8 hours once on a L1011 flight from YYZ-LHR. I had to sit in the middle when AC still had there L1011's for 5 hours from YYZ-YVR. I miss the L1011

        3-3-3 vs 2-5-2 on the 777

2-5-2, as I always go for a window seat, and as KBOS already mentioned, 3-3-3 means the risk is twice as likely compared to 2-5-2 to climb over 2 people when using the lav.

3-3-3 also evens out the bin space hypothetically speaking.

2-5-2 as United (my airline of choice) uses it.

I always take a window seat, so 2-5-2 is better because with 3-3-3, I'm two seats away from the aisle.

              EDIT:
Sorry for repeating...I guess it would be smarter to read the other posts BEFORE making a response!?!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was Boeing which introduced this arrangement (3-4-2) in the 741 when it was first introduced to the airlines.

Your corrected. 747's layouts are 3x4x3. Thats the standard layout. Although airlines can customize it. But I have never seen a 747 layout of 2x4x3.

The problem is, when the flight is full, you don't always get to choose what seat you get. I have been in the middle seat of a CP's DC10 flying from YVR to HKG, 12hrs, almost got killed.

I like 3-4-2 better than 3-3-3 though. Besides L1011, KLM and JAL also has 3-4-2 on their MD11s. Don't know about other MD11 (or ex-MD11) operators. I have never been on a 3-4-2 plane, just imagined that it would be better. The only time I flew on a L1011, the seat arrangement was 2-3-2.

Common guys, if ya want to talk about 747 seating than make your own topic. Anyway, Egypt air does have their 777s in 2-4-3 seating but I didn't add it as a poll option because they are the only airline with it.

I haven't been on a 777 so I haven't actually experienced either arrangement. But I don't get the argument that the 3x3x3 is better. There are 2 people (next to the window) that have to climb over 2 people versus the 1 person that has to climb over 2 people in the 2x5x2 arragement.

Varig also has 2-4-3 on their MD11s. Although I like this better than 3-3-3, it feels wierd that the cabin isn't symmetrical.
