  • 9W gets NYC clearance; IC's ticket packages; Interesting article on Indian LCC's

Jet Airways has been given permission to start flights between Mumbai and New York City via Brussels (thus starting the first ever n/s service between BOM and BRU). Service will be provided three times a week. Details of the new service should be up on Jet's website soon:

After allowing private Indian carriers to operate to the UK and southeast Asia, government today permitted Jet Airways to launch operations to New York from the ensuing summer season starting April.

Indian Airlines has unveiled new ticket packages-16 flight coupons for $65,000 (about $U.S.1512) to any domestic network destination. What do you guys think? I think IC has launched it as a counter-attack on Air Deccan's ticket packages, which are pretty similar, which you can find on www.airdeccan.net

Indian Airlines announced the launch of its 'Bumper Super Saver' scheme providing 16 flight coupons to anywhere on the domestic sector for Rs 65,000.

Here's an interesting article on Indian LCC's:

India Business News: NEW DELHI: A whole new generation of entrepreneurs are now preparing to try their hand at doing business 30,000-feet up in the sky.

Lufthansa inaugurated n/s r/t's between HYD and FRA. Service is operated using a 343:

German Airlines Lufthansa on Friday operated its first direct flight from here to Frankfurt, making Hyderabad the network's fifth destination in India.

Can't wait till BMI and Virgin start n/s's between LHR and BOM!

More new developments from India's air transport business. Soon we shall be able to say : " Not anymore a single day without its AIR-news from India".
Jet Airways to NYC thru BRU makes for the day itself.
The Air Deccan deal reminds me once again of some french airplayers which used to sell "blocks" of unnamed tickets as a means to assault Air Inter ! . The client had the choice of either single route or systemwide.
Looks that Air Deccan has picked a good one for success as we can see IC doing the same ...
Reading the articles on LCCs augurs of more interesting developments in the pipeline (easyJet franchise just to name one). One thing is sure, India confirms how underserved she had been until then.

Hmm maybe the next addition to SkyTeam, NW and Jet Airways have a pretty tight agreement.

        In their 737's?

I assume they're getting new planes sometime?
"The Director also sets the record straight on what would happen if oxygen masks were to drop from the ceiling: The passengers freak out with abandon, instead of continuing to chat amiably, as though lunch were being served, like they do on those in-flight safety videos."

Please come to Atlanta! Give DL some competition! (lol)

Also, JetAirways is considered as an LCC in India. Do you think that we can see those low fares on the International routes? Will the prices be simply to match or be slightly lower that AI? Or will we see truly low fares on these routes?
Whatever is necessary, is never unwise.

Jet is by no means an LCC. It's a full-fare airline, just like S2, IC and AI. Air Deccan's the country's first-ever LCC. You won't get a Rs. 700 one-way ticket on Jet or any of the other three main carriers and still be able to fly in a mainliner.

But fares between the U.S. and India are on the decrease, and with more flights and cities being linked, fares will go down more (though probably not as much during the peak period in the winter season). Once Jet and Air Sahara begin flying between the U.K. and India, and when Jet begins NYC service, you will see more competitive fares. And I'm hoping the winter-only flights between India and the U.S. are made year-round with the new U.S.-India OS agreement.
