AC not to help stuck Jetsgo passengers

I think if they had some kinda cash agreement first, like 100 dollarydoo's then accept or what have you. I dont think any airline today would accept there tickets except for westjet, just so they can piss off AC.

I am with you. After all Air France resisted pleas and did not started wooing stranded passengers left behind by Air Liberté ....
AF behaved just on the smartest ; as the archi-rival who had not any single reasons to bent. And I appreciated that CEO Jean-Cyril Spinetta took care of personnally advising Jean Charles Corbet to go and see somewhere else.
It was a great sweat revenge, back in 1998, a JC Corbet, then an AF captain and altogether a shop steward waged a strike on the eve of the World Soccer Cup. JC Corbet later left the airline .... to take up Air Liberté with some whismical financial backing . But in fact he proved much more a CON-MAN, and a f*cking one than anything else. Well should this Mr Leblanc comes from the same mould as Corbet and also has some hidden assets in either the Cayman Islands or Luxembourg, AC should not refrain to ask
- some clarification
- initiate some forclosures on Leblanc's presonnal holdings
and use the proceeds as a cover for JetGo customers repatriation costs.

I disagree Kevin. Lets say you have an A320 flight today with 140 seats, of which 122 has been sold so far. You have two choices: (1) fly with the remaining 18 seats empty, or (2) sell the last 18 seats at a highly discounted price - which is what WestJet is doing. There are costs involved but at this point these costs (maintenance, fuel, crew, even depreciation) are fixed: they will be incurred since the airline has already committed to the flight. (There are some marginal costs with each new passenger but these are fairly small, bag of peanuts, free drinks etc) So you have the costs and you have the revenue given. What WJ is doing is increasing their revenues while only increasing their costs slightly and, at the same time, increasing brand goodwill (and something tells me they could need some of it ...)

I do agree with what Westjet is doing. But the problum with the AC side is...

A: High load factors making it hard to fly passengers when planes are full or some seats opem, making familys split up
B: AC just pulled out of bankruptcy no less than 6 months ago, this would defenitly make them loose a substantial amount of money.
C: Im looking at flights out of Halifax, there all stacked FULL, so can you tell me how your supposed to put stranded pax on a FULL plane?
D: Maby some seats are open, but there could be emplyee's travelling which will fill up the seats.

They also don't seem to understand that Air Canada has very little capacity available to acommadate any Jestgo passengers. This is a very busy weekend in the Canadian airline industry.
I'm happy Jestgo is gone. I don't think they were a very safe operation. Half assed doesn't begin to describe them.
Its sad that they stranded so many people.

If AC wants it that way, all those SG pax will flock to Westjet, and then AC will see what a mistake they made .

Indeed, if AC accepted the stranded JetsGo passengers, they would have made some very good publicity, so even if the didn't make much profit (or even a loss) on those passengers, they would probably have gained more in the long run from the good publicity and the gratitude from the stranded passengers (who would probably fly them instead of the competition because they would have good memories about AC getting them out of a bad situation).

WestJet has announced that they will offer special fares to those with JetsGo tickets. I would hope these will be fares that are much better than the normal ticket prices and WestJet comes out looking good from a public relations view.

If people bought their tickets through a travel agent, in Ontario at least, they will eventually get their money back. However those that purchased them direct from Jetsgo are SOL. Air Canada is more than willing to help passengers with $$$$$$ if seats are available. As an airline, I would not honour Jetsgo tickets either, unless cash was provided up front, which is highly unlikely.

I had a casual acquaintance that insisted on flying Canada3000 to LGW and ended up getting stuck there when they folded. Despite being told to buy through a travel agent considering their precarious position, he bought through their airport location cash to save a few bucks. I believe people that purchased tickets on a credit card may also have a degree of protection as well.

This definitly doesnt surprise me. This brings back memories of when Canada 3000 folded back in 2001. It really sucks for all the booked passengers, but mostly for the people stranded in a foreign city.
