  • Air Canada Adds Flights In Response To Jetsgo Shutdown

    Air Canada is adjusting its domestic Canada schedule to add flights between major cities across Canada in light of Jetsgo's sudden shutdown.

    In a news release, the airline said it will add new daily round trip services between Toronto and Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg and Halifax in time for the peak summer travel season. Air Canada's increase in services will be implemented in stages across the country as plans are finalized, it noted.

    Thats great but they are forgetting about Florida. Jetsgo had many flights to florida which is obviously a hot sport for March break.
    Thanks,

      Jetsgo had a flight out of the local YXU to Veradero every Monday......unfortunate that this flight may no longer exist from this airport.

      Does anyone know if AC or WJ are planning on taking over standing flights that Jetsgo had out of many Canadian airports?

        It was saturday skyservice and air canada are mondays :P. Since it is with a tour operator, I presume the service will continue, just with another airline. Hopefully we dont lose 1 of our "photo worthy" flights here in london .

            There may be other issues since that's an international flight which prevents them for acting that quickly on this.

              Air Canada is going to have 38 daily flights each way between Ottawa and Toronto, as well as 50 daily flights each way between Montreal and Toronto.

              That's quite insane if you ask me...

                It sounds crazier than it is: Lets say there are 5 million people in the GTA, 1.5 million in the GOA (Greater Ottawa Area) and 2.5 mill in the GMA.

                Further assume 0.05% of the GTA population needs to fly to GOA and GMA daily, so:

                GTA->GMA = 5 mill * 0.05% = 2500
                GTA->GOA = 5 mill * 0.05% = 2500

                and similarly

                GOA->GTA = 1.5 mill * 0.05% = 750
                GMA->GTA = 2.5 mill * 0.05% = 1250

                So flights between Toronto and Ottawa would be a combined 3250 passengers per day, if the majority needs to a return flight you're looking at up to 6000 per day. For GTA->GMA the number is 3750, and 7500 if everybody needs a return flight as well. These numbers might seem a bit high, and indeed they're slightly overstating it, but keep in mind that these are very high population centres, plus there is an enormous amount of business travel in and out of Toronto each day. Not to mention a lot of politicians + support staff + government/administrative travellers going in and out Ottawa each day. Many of these returns the same day, if not usually within 3 or 4 days.

                    I hope US will start FLL-YUL/YYZ service. That market is HUGE in the winter. My Grandmother paid $850 CND for a flight in the middle of January to FLL from YUL and the flight was completly full on a 762!!! Anyone know how the Codeshare agreement works on this flight between AC and US?
