  • Canjet expected to add YEG.

Now that Jetsgo has bit the bullet Canjet has reportedly said it would also add YYZ-YEG flights this spring using 737-500s with upto twice daily service.Canjet recently annouced flights to YYC and YVR from YYZ.
Fly Edmonton first.Canadas gateway to the north.

Personally, I feel that Canjet currently has a nice niche in the market. They are known as the airline of the Atlantic provinces. I would hate to see them abandoning that image and overexpand like others (*cough* JetsGo *cough*) have done. Nevertheless, I wish them all the best.

Nice to get another choice again.
I'm pretty sure C6 would take it easy a bit and not be as ambitious as Jetsgo in terms as expansion

If this is really the case I hope C6 isn't sealing their fate this soon after SG's demise. SG got quite slaughtered in western canada by WJ, and ended up spreading themselves way to thin. For C6 to open up in YEG would be pushing it. They have no brand recognition in the west, they don't even know how they will do on the YYZ-YYC/YVR routes yet. It might be a wise decision to go with slow growth like they have been doing rather then start over-expanding and ending up in bankruptcy court like so many other canadian carriers have after expanding way to quickly.

For sure... that's the reality of the western market... it's all about WestJet and to a lesser extent, Air Canada.

Unless you're knowledgable on the industry, no one out here has a clue who/what Canjet is... I believe the expansion could be profitable if it is done strategically and brand loyalty is firmly established before any further growth out west takes place.

From my understanding, Canjet does not have any IFE either... which will make it tougher to promote their product over WJ/AC.

I've always wondered how well Canjet does on their YWG-MCO route...

Where did you this come from?? I haven't heard anything like this, I don't doubt it will do okay. YEG is a market that I carrier like CANJET will do fine in, It isn't going to be quite as loyal to West Jet as YYC.

I think Canjet will be successful if they are able to be competitve and offer good service to their new western clients...

It won't be easy.... here's why:

As a consumer... what would you choose (hypothetically):

#1) Air Canada: A319/320/321 with IFE for $500 return - several daily flights to choose from...

#2) WestJet: 737-700 with LiveTV & leather seats for $500 return- several daily flights as well...

#3) Canjet: 737-500, no IFE for $500 return - couple flights.

Brand recognition, loyality, and superior customer service will determine the outcome of Canjet's expansion plans.

And... if we are speaking about YYZ-YVR routing, you can throw a couple widebodies into the mix with AC...

Exactly. CanJet has made NO such announcement. Expect them to go slow - they haven't even started flying to YYC and YVR yet (this isn't like WN, that announced an increase in flights before they had started flying to PHL). They are - as of now - not going to YEG unless somebody can show otherwise.

Personally, I don't believe that there is room for 3 Larger Airlines in Canada. Air Canada is known everywhere, WestJet flies right across Canada (but Ownes the West). Other Airlines that try to pop up aren't going to last.

Its a matter of management and savvy business. Its not that long ago since you'd see most canadians say "There isn't room for more than 1 big airline in Canada." I certainly wouldn't qualify CanJet as a large airline (quite frankly, I don't see them as a medium-sized airline either) but if they're smart and cautious there is no reason why they shouldn't survive and thrive alongside the rest.

Don't expand to fast Canjet... my Grandparents already lost enough $$$$.
                      Thanks,

Exactly... it's all about strategy... if Canjet plays their cards properly they will be successful.

A friend of mine is a F.O. for the company and a meeting was held very soon after the SG demise was annouced and it was brought up since YEG was SGs strongest market outside of YYZ.No one has "officially" annouced anything yet but mark my words it will likely happen within the next few weeks.

Ummm Jetsgo's YEG operations were a disaster.... how could this have possibly have been their strongest market outside of YYZ... you would think YOW/YUL easily would have had more dominance on the financials.

Jetsgos ops into YEG were strong and just prior to folding the carrier annouced 2 new routes that didnt happen,Ft.mcmurray and Regina.
