  • Canadian Government making Airline Prices Clearer

In light of fares that are $1, the Canadian government wants to make the airlines include taxes in their fares.

From the globeandmail.com (full article here)
"The federal government introduced amendments to the Transportation Act on Thursday that would force airlines to include all taxes, fees and other charges in their advertised ticket prices."

    From CTV.ca (full article here)
"Hoping to clear up the public's frequent confusion between advertised and actual airfares, Ottawa is pushing the airline industry to include all taxes and fees in their ads."

I think it is about time, but when are taxes going to be included in ALL prices in Canada. I hate working out taxes all the time.

An even better proposal would be getting rid of that 7% tax entirely... then we in Alberta could actually pay the amount listed on the price tag for a change...

      Be glad it isn't 15!

But yeah...I agree that this is about time. You have no idea how frustrating it is to think you found a good deal (for -say- $50), then you go through all the steps and end up with a bill for $300...and you think WTF?

The GST is not stupid/usless, which is why no government has since be able to get rid of it. I provides billions upon billions of dollars of revenue for the government. If you can think of another way to get that much money, then write to your MP.
