  • Alcoholic Drinks on board...Age limit?

Guys, what is the age limit of drinks on board a plane....

Like in Canada if you go to a bar it is 19, in the US it is 21. UK I heard there is no laws...in Holland it is 16.

Now, what about on planes....Like do you have to show them ID that you are over 18 and thats it?

I am not asking because I wanna drink...I just thought of this question after I came from a strip joint.....

Im not sure. I would guess it would be the legal age that your airlines country accepts. Like 19 on Air Canada, 21 on American, ect.

Or, I think it might be dependant on what country your flying to. If your
going from Canada to the US, mabey its 21?

Cant speak for other airlines, but on Delta you have to be 21 to order an alcoholic beverage on any of our flights...

So Delta is 21, and thats because it is a US Airline and they are going with the US drinking age limit...

Thats what I was kinda hinting.....

so Air Canada would be 19

          BA would be any age....

          hmmm....what an interesting topic....

This really isn't a particularly compelling topic. To answer this question, all you have to do is actually think. To which governing bodies are each respective airline responsible. Clearly they have to uphold the laws of the country to which they are registered. Just the same, Cruise ships abide the laws of the countries to which they are registered. Simple.

FWIW, I look young (and have been flying since well before I was 21), and I've never been carded on any flight. A few years back, I'd occasionally get a "are you sure you're 21?" with a grin from the FA, but after an "of course," the drinks would start flowing.

ok, so you saying that it is where the airlines originates or is registered.

                    so US airlines 21

BA is anything because there is no laws in UK

KLM would give out drinks to 16 year olds???!!!

When I flew to Australia on Qantas I was 15 and a beer wasn't a problem.

Also, in Holland 16 year olds can only get low alcohol drinks (les than 12.5% alcohol) for strong alcohol drinks you have to be over 18.

It doesn't mean you can be 15, it just means that this particular person managed to get some at that age. In reality, it all depends on the situation, the person, and the F/A serving them. The legal drinking age in Australia is 18, so it is Qantas policy, and Federal Law that they serve only those aged 18 and up.

The age is 18 in the UK. Nice of you to do your research.

I had drinks on KLM at age 18. It was cool. They were even free in coach! I tried their cognac and it tasted like gasoline (or what I'd imagine gas/petrol would taste like).
