MONTREAL, April 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - ACE Aviation Holdings Inc., the parent company of Air Canada, and Boeing today announced a wide-body fleet renewal plan for the airline that includes up to 36 Boeing 777s and up to 60 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Air Canada will use the airplanes to modernize its existing fleet and improve operating efficiencies, creating one of the world's youngest and most simplified airline fleets.

The wide-body renewal plan includes firm orders for 18 Boeing 777s, plus purchase rights for 18 more, in a yet-to-be-determined mix of the 777 family's newest models: the 777-300ER, the 777-200LR Worldliner (the longest range airplane in the world), and the newly announced 777 Freighter. Air Canada's 777 deliveries are scheduled to begin next year with the arrival of three 777- 300ERs in 2006. The carrier's first 777-300ERs will operate its Vancouver- Tokyo service.

The renewal plan also includes firm orders for 14 ultra-efficient new Boeing 787 Dreamliners, plus options and purchase rights for an additional 46 airplanes. Air Canada's first 787 is scheduled for delivery in 2010.

And be sure to check out AC's nice animation of the 787(requires Media Player):

Great news for Boeing. This was one of those 787 vs. A350 battles and it looks like the 787 came through.

The 787 v. A350 battle is beginning to remind me of a Harlem Globetrotters v. Washington Generals game.

                  B787: 217
                  A350: 10

I was surprised to see Air Canada go back to Boeing.

How can you have an opinion on that? They either do, or they don't. Just so happens that United has more.

That aside, I'm incredibly happy that AC has chosen to go with Boeing on this one. It's great for Boeing, great for AC, and great for me who now gets to fly on them!

I'm not surprised at all that AC went with the 777/787 combination. It's pretty clear by now that the 787 makes a very good 767 replacement and that's a large part of what this order was about. If the A350 didn't keep A330 operators KE and NW from going for the 787, there's was no reason to think it would help Airbus win the AC order either.

Congrats to Boeing, big order, I wonder how long now till we see the final frozen spec of the 787.

With the a350,I feel the a350 will start to rack up some orders after the Paris Airshow, I can see Emirates going a350 potentially, they should take about 200 and that'll even up the scoreboard

                            congarts Boeing.

I don't know what's happening with the A 350. The 787 is really dominatiing. But let's see what will happen in the future. Airbus was bigger than Boeing in the last few years and now Boeing ist getting more orders again.

They will replace the very young A340-500 fleet and 767's only at the moment....

777-300ER's are for expansion to Asia, 777-200LRF for cargo, 777-200LR as and A340-500 replacement.

787-8 as an 767-200/300 replacement 787-9 as an 767-300 replacement. Eventually you will see that theire fleet will consist (longhaul) in the following order (think about 2010)

                              767-300ER (the youngest)
                              787-8/9
                              777-200/300
A340-300 (maybe some left already in that time frame)
A330-300 (they are still good, but will go after the 767 i predict, in about 2015)

                              and about 2015 :

                              787-8/9
                              777-200/300

why should we fight about wich aircraft manufactor is better..............

                              thats so childish....

because hey we all know boeing is better
