  • Aircraft Layouts

This is a topic which often irritates me. Why do some airlines have different layouts in some of their fleet in comparison to other airlines. The 777 is an example. most US airlines (AA,UA etc) and MH seen to have a 2-5-2 layout but BA and SQ have a 3-3-3 layout. The Us layout is completely imparaticl for the air hostesses and difficult for passengers sitting in the very middle seat. You are more than likely have to share your row and window seats will be hard to get.

What do you guys think? Are there any other strange layouts you can think of?

Its not weird, its just a decision the airline has made on what it thinks is the best suited. The US layout isnt more impractical, the person in the middle is two seats away from an isle, just like the window seats in the 3-3-3 arrangement.

Emirates has a 3-5-3 layout i think. People complain that it feels too tight.

Maybe I've missed something in your 'argument' but................

3-3-3 means that 2 people are 2 seats from an aisle, 2-5-2 means that only 1 person is 2 seats from an aisle & can be served from either side so I'd have thought that were better for the cabin-crew.....

Make that 3-4-3. No airline in the world has a 11-abreast seating (at least not yet).

              The actual arrangement is 2-5-2

do boeing actually have to change the widths of the overhead lockers according to the airline's seating arrangement?

So far so good! 3-5-3 would leave you 9 inches of isle space.

Nope, the plane is already fabricated before the seats go into place. This would cause to much confusion.

Heh heh, tell me about that being stuck on a 6 hour flight in the middle seat of the L1011!

I confirm Emirates is 3-4-3.......they only negative on an otherwise very satisfactory trip LHR-DXB-LHR. KLM's 772 is 3-3-3 and a much more comfortable arrangement.

Unless I'm mistaken, there are also some carriers with non-symmetrical arrangements on the MD11. I think it was 3-4-2 or maybe 2-4-3. I've heard good things about such layouts, because you can accommodate parties or 2, 3 or 4 perfectly.
