  • BA Flight Chaos - Wildcat Strike

It's been since midday I heard from the radio and then on BBC and CNN.

A chaos at London Heathrow due to multiple strike in a day. First strike is by the staff of BA's sub-contractor Gate Gourmet after hundreds of caterers were fired. The result no frills in flight, passengers received meals before boarding. Later on, the baggage handlers follows the strike. All BA's flights are cancelled until further notice.

BUT, this only for BA. Other airlines work normally. I wonder what will Rod Eddington will say in few days to come.

That would explain why the 2 daily BA 744s at SFO have been towed to overnight parking. I was wondering what the hell was going on, especially since one was towed shortly after it landed, hours before it was supposed to depart.

Shit....I can't find my union beating stick....It's too bad about the Gate Gourmet people...why did the BA people walk out?

Mind you, from an article I read, the GG management wasn't the top in the industry...

Exactly, it's a goodbye gift from Rod Edington besides all the profit made and all these successfull business plan from him. But it's a headache for BA's upcoming CEO. For those who don't know, BA's future CEO is Aer Lingus curent CEO. He will take over in few months.

The employee of Gate Gourmet that were fired were contracted employee to help the summer peak. Interestingly, most of those fired were Asian, like Indian, Pakistan ethnic background.

I wonder why in Europe major airline like BA and Alitalia regularly conduct a strike while other carrier like KLM and Lufthansa don't. Are they just listen to their employee?

Yup this isnt good at all, alot of flights today have been cancelled by the looks of it and it looks like most fo the weekend flights are going to be cancelled.
For me its a pain as im flying out Monday evening to Toronto and i have a feeling that my flight is going to be cancelled which if it is then i will be seriously ****ed off as i need to be in Toronto by Tuesday morning. I could always take another airline but i wouldnt be suprised in the slightest if all the other airlines are fully booked up.
Just my bloody luck as well that they decided to strike this week

I didn't see the BA flight arriving into Seattle last night unless she actually "made it in" and is now overnighted here (?). She normally arrives at about 3:45PM Seattle time so I'm wondering if she would have made it out of LHR before the cancellations began.

My uncle is a 747 captain for British Airways. I e-mailed him this morning when I saw this story. His response is below:

"I don't know what the heck is going on! I was supposed to be on my way to Miami by now but I got a couple of unexpected days off instead. Off to the golf course in a couple of hours".

The last part makes a lot of sense. He is retiring from BA at the end of the year.

Asshats is the word no offense to anyone connected but there ain't no winners only thousands of passengers stranded and delayed, and considering what London is going through you'd think the strikers had a brain... Recent BBC pictures show that Heathrow has been grinded to a halt only planes are arriving, none are departing check the live flight board -> http://www.baa.co.uk/portal/controll...ht+Information

Nope we have a problem with thick people in Britain who just don't understand "Cause and effect" like above... Asshats!

Just so you know this is affecting every airline at Heathrow who uses catering from Gate Gourmet and this tends to be virtually all of them.
