  • Air Canada A319 engine fire...

    Hey guys,

I live about a 5-10 minute drive from YYC and I can view all departures from runway 10 from my living room... heard something like fireworks and peaked outside...

An Air Canada A319 had it's left engine in flames and it was flaring (loud continuous pops) and the aircraft was definitely struggling to climb. It then circled around for an emergency landing on 16...

I arrived at YYC to view the aircraft being escorted by firetrucks to the A terminal.. no other details to report.

I raced out there as soon as I heard about it. Got there just after it had landed. I drove over to the terminal and there was nothing going on around any of the Air Canada Airbus'. One was parked at static, and three were at the gate. Nothing seemed unusual considering what had just happened.

I probably drove past you Carey...

Yeah I didn't notice too much more excitement at the airport... but man, what a sight to see out of my living room window... I thought I had heard fireworks going off, and it turned out to be that aircraft... was already circling around by the time I grabbed the camera...

Did you get any pictures of it? Global is having something on it tonight on the 11pm news.

Unfortunately, I did not have the camera around... wish I could have snapped the scene from my house... never seen anything like it.

Global TV reported at 11 that AC had confirmed to them it was a bird strike (flock of Canada Geese) shortly after takeoff.

Ottawa. The plane got "goosed" on takeoff.
