BOSTON -- Officials at Logan International Airport in Boston are trying to figure out what caused a jetway to give way as passengers were off-loading an airbus Wednesday morning.
A U.S. Airways Flight 944 had just arrived from Philadelphia at about 10 a.m. when the accident happened. It appears that a wheel collapsed under the structure as the 100 passengers and five-member crew deplaned at Gate 6 of Terminal B.
"I was on the walkway and it started kind of shaking and, basically, gave out. Those of us who were in the carousal part ended up pretty much slammed against the wall and the floor eventually rose up and basically settled about six feet below where it was supposed to be," passenger Alex Gochtoutt said.
One U.S. Airways employee was taken to Boston Medical Center complaining of shoulder pain. One passenger received minor injuries.
"(The jetway) started shaking pretty bad and we didn't know what was happening and we just ran out as quickly as we could. We were waiting for a couple of our colleagues who were actually still further back the jetway. A couple of them actually fell down. It was little dramatic. We were OK, nobody got hurt," passenger Amy Kemner said.
The airbus received minor damage. A crane was used to remove the jetway from the tarmac.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Massport are investigating the accident.
