NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Pilots at Delta Air Lines voted to authorize a strike against the nation's No. 2 airline, the union announced Tuesday, though no date was set for a walkout.
Management of the nation's No. 2 airline and the pilot's union are locked in discussions on new wage concessions as an arbitration panel weighs whether the airline can dump its union contract. A decision from that panel is due by April 15.
Okay pilots, start learning your rehearsal now, repeat after me:
"Do you want fries with that?" Cause you sure as hell will have a hard time ever getting a job nearly well paid in the aviation industry again. And I'm sure all other DL employees will be more than willing to show each and everyone of you what they think of you once DL dies .

I feel bad for those on the ramp, gates, ticket counter, RES everyone on the front lines. you folks will be hurt the most and it's a damn sad thing. take some small comfort in the above post... they will never be allowed to kill another airline after this one because they won't be hired by one.
my best to you all....
In every organization, there will always be one person who knows what's going on. This person must be fired.
^ I agree with you man. I mean, the pilots decide to protest and for their own reasons, not knowing that they will hurt so many others (hundreds of throusands of others...) in the process. I am all for getting pilots better pay and contracts and the like, but the pilots need to understand that they have two options:
Stick it out with DL (take the lesser pay for now), work till things get better and then live to fight another day.
OR
Worry about a major pay cut [i.e. no pay at all.] and disrupt hundreds of thousands of lives...
I dont think that 6000 frontline employees should have the ability to shut the company down - I am just waiting to see what happens after 15Apr and their true test of character...
Considering that the National Prez of ALPO is a Northwest pilot who believes there are too many planes flying and their should be reduction in legacy carriers or mergers, we think there is a real possibility that Delta will be used as the scapegoat for all the other pilot unions to reap the rewards of a carrier liquidating...and since no other work group at Delta is under active unionization (flight dispatchers havent had representation in years) then ALPO wont have to worry about repercussions from IAM, AMFA, Teamsters, etc...the Delta pilots will be known as martyrs to airline unions from coast to coast...
can I ask any of you guys what you would do if your employer cut your pay nearly in half?
With pay and benefit cuts last year my pay dropped 32%...I brought home about 20k last year because of the cuts...
I am still with job because I have fun on the job, not for the money...but the company has already said that cuts have to be made and if they cant get them from the pilots they have to look elsewhere, which means further cuts to my salary and benefits..every Delta employee, except for the pilots are in the bottom tier of payscale compared to our counterparts at other airlines, even with the paycut that management is asking for, Delta pilots would still be in the top tier and be very well compensated compared to pilots at other airlines...

Unfortunately, most of the pilots work to earn a living. They've already taken around 50% in cuts. I understand that their wages are still considerably higher, but (not saying this to be a dick, and if I come across that way, I appologize), it takes a lot more training, a lot more responsibility, and a lot more work to become a pilot than a customer service agent. They also have to completely change their lifestyle because of the job. I've gotten into this before, so I'll save you some reading.
You wont have pride in your job if you dont get paid what you should be paid. Studys also show performance goes down when your pay is lower than what it should me, not only performance but moral at the company.
Like Joe says, pilots earn money to make a living, and like I was explaining to my teacher, I would have to work 2 jobs if I wanted to be a reigonal airline pilot in the US to make a good living.
It's about time that somebody stood up, NW pilots were able to scare management into what they wanted, both sides met half way. But enough is enough, this BS by management needs to end.

Last thing I read was that Grinstein as the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company made $625,000 in two years, with no added bonuses, there have been three rounds of paycuts for the entire management, and 1,000 management positions are being axed, saving the airline $200 million annually .
