  • Anyone ever flown China Airlines?

    Hello all,

I've got a study abroad to Taiwan and Hong Kong for three weeks coming up in mid-May, and for the trip I'll be flying NWA MSP-SFO, and then China Airlines SFO-TPE, then later in the trip KHH-HKG, and then the return trip HKG-TPE-SFO. I'm wondering if anyone here has ever flown China Airlines before (trans-pacific especially), and if so, what did you think? What kind of service did they have? What can I expect? Any feedback about China Airlines, or about TPE, KHH, or HKG airports would be appreciated. Thanks.

And yes, I plan on posting a trip report when I get back.

I have flown the airlines 3 times, but those are really long time ago. Once on their 707, once on 747-200 and once on 767-200.

From what I learned from people who have flown with the airline recently, service is pretty good, basically at par with airlines like Korean Air. It may still be not as good as the star carriers CX and SQ, but it is certainly far ahead of what you would experience on US carriers.

Safety is always a concern flying the airline though. Maintenance mishaps are common and probably you will still find ex-fighter pilots flying your flights.

I was going to say that I refuse to fly them, I'm surprised they have not made the FAA's no fly list.
