EDMONTON, Aug. 21 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada today announced the introduction of the only non-stop flights between Edmonton and London Heathrow, further solidifying the airline's position as the leading carrier offering the most non-stop service between Canada and the U.K. By next summer, Air Canada will offer up to 15 daily non-stop flights to London from eight cities across Canada: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax and St. John's.

Air Canada's Edmonton-London Heathrow flights will operate three times weekly starting October 31, 2006 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, ramping up to daily service beginning April 1, 2007. Air Canada flight AC898 departs Edmonton at 18:35 (20:25 departure time on Tuesdays), arriving at Heathrow at 10:10; and flight AC899 will leave Heathrow at 12:35, arriving in Edmonton at 14:30. Flights have been timed to ensure convenient connections in Edmonton to and from Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie and Yellowknife.

Air Canada has timed its Edmonton-London flights to ensure convenient connections at Heathrow with its Star Alliance partners, offering an expanded network to all major European cities as well as destinations across the Middle East and Africa. Tickets are now available for purchase.
Plane used will be a 763ER.

Good news for Edmonton. In the late 1980s Wardair Canada, Canadian and Air Canada all offered non stops to LHR or LGW. AC's aircraft in those days was a 1011-500, CPs was a the 763ER and Wardair used the A310-300.

They probibly just wanted to move the plane out the way for when BA comes to Calgary lol!

on a more serious note... Will the Calgary service be affected by this?

This is great news for Edmonton and the north. This will compliment the AC service out of YYC nicely. The times are well arranged as well for connecting passengers.

I'll have to pull up the other news release about the schedule, but this is the second time in the past month or two where flights have been added to YEG and says that convenient connections to YZF were part of the reason for the flight time...

In this case, passengers have to sit for 6 hours in Edmonton before picking up the flight to YZF...that's not convenient to me...still faster to fly through YYC. The flight headed East is convenient indeed.

Thats not funny and nor does it make sense

How would YYC be affected? There are two flights a day out of YYC to LHR on a 767-300ER and an A330-300.

AC will likely go to 1 daily flight to LHR from YYC or possibly keep a few extras around per week on top of the daily.I expect BA will have a big effect on YYC and AC in particular.A little oversaturated to say the least....

YYC-LHR is double daily in the summer and a single daily during the winter.

Good for YEG best ambassador worldwide. More seriously, resurrecting this ones after decades clearly shows solid markets on both ends of the line waited to be adressed.
