Indian Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel yesterday informed the Lok Sabha (lower house of parliament) that the merged Air India's board voted to join Star Alliance, according to the United News of India news service and The Economic Times.
With alliances becoming increasingly interested in the growing Indian market, the combination of Air India and Indian Airlines appeared to be the big prize (ATWOnline, Jan. 23). Patel told parliament that the board intended to begin discussions with AI management on initiating the joining process, according to the reports. No other details were revealed, and neither the airline nor the alliance issued a statement.

I wouldn't be surprised if this happened given the close links between AI and LH.
