  • Star Alliance moving together in MIA

    From my company email;

    Star Alliance begins move to new South Terminal at Miami Airport. Star Alliance member carrier US Airways has relocated to the new South Terminal at Miami International Airport, completing the first step in a collocation project which will in future see all five Star Alliance member carriers operating from the same terminal. Member carrier United is scheduled to move later in October 2007, with Lufthansa and SWISS moving on November 1st, 2007 and Air Canada following suit by mid-November.

    Located in the new concourse J, the 50 shared ticketing and check-in counters form the backbone of this new development and will allow the five
    member carriers to improve customer service, while at the same time lower operational costs. Monitors located behind each counter will identify the airline while also displaying the Star Alliance logo. Arriving passengers will
    also benefit from the new Terminal. The new international arrivals facility can handle up to 2,000 passengers per hour and with international and domestic flights using the same concourse, passengers transferring between the five alliance member carriers will be able to connect between flights faster than before. In addition, all five member carriers will share one common Star Alliance branded baggage services facility, which customers can contact in case of any luggage irregularity. The five Star Alliance member carriers serving Miami – Air Canada, Lufthansa, SWISS, United and US Airways operate more than 100 weekly flights out of Miami, serving destinations in the USA as well as Canada, Germany and Switzerland. What do you mean, wrong section ?
    Anyway, will be interesting to see how well *A will fill up Terminal J, as their movements from MIA are a far cry from what they used to be back when the move was originally planned and UA actually had a large presence at MIA, including flights to South America, and when Varig was actually a powerhouse to Brazil from MIA.

        An Update. Any Star Alliance employees in MIA?

        Countdown to grand opening of new Miami South Terminal: Star Alliance to hold special employee event this week. During the month of December, Air Canada will join four other Star Alliance members (United, Lufthansa, SWISS and US Airways) at Miami International Airport’s concourse J. This move will enable improved customer service and lower operational costs. To celebrate the grand opening of the new Miami South Terminal, Star Alliance invites all employees of its member carriers in the Miami area to a fun, interactive day where they can learn more about Star Alliance and ask questions about Star’s products and services. The event will take place this Thursday, November 29th, from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. / 3 p.m.-6 p.m. EST, in the Star
        Alliance Break Room # J2184, South Terminal – behind the UA/ US ticket counters.

          Let's hope they are employees prone showing up ! This would be a nice operational way to reward this idea, which should be repeated so far.
