I know that Delta has their first of 8 777-200LRs scheduled for delivery this February. Does anyone know what routes they will be flown on before they get put on the ultra long haul to Shanghai on March 31st? I want to be able to fly on a 777 domestically. The 2007 colors would only be a bonus.

I think that the aircraft will be paired up for their services to Mumbai and Shanghai, but I am certain that there are other routes in the planning phase (and/or more frequencies to the same destinations - or maybe we will start seeing ATL - DEL, ATL - BOM, and ATL - MAA).Whatever is necessary, is never unwise.

Re:
You can expect the current 772ER that's deployed between ATL and BOM via JFK (both ways) to be relaced with a 772LR in the near future. As to the exact date, I don't know that.
And as for DEL, it is a possible destination in the future for DL but keep in mind it codeshares with AF, which operates a 744 between CDG and DEL, so not likely.

The most logical route would be ATL-MCO, which has traditionally been DL's main route to get their pilots experience with a new longhaul type, be it the 772, M11, 763ER, 764ER, etc. But I wouldn't expect too many domestic 77L flights. Once the two first are on property, they will more or less immediately be put on ATL-JFK-BOM to free up 2 772s for PVG, and DL might also use the first arriving 77L to pull current 772s from int'l routes and have them repainted and possibly new interiors installed.

Originally posted by AA 1818Exactly what I was thinking. There would be little to no time needed for familirization. I think that where they would need practice is on the long-haul sectors (with multiple crews and the like) but they already opreate their aircaft on long routes anyway, so this may not be a problem.
