  • Orient Thai plans $2.5 bln order for Boeing planes

    http://www.reuters.com/article/marke...0071219?rpc=44
BANGKOK, Dec 19 (Reuters) - Orient Thai Airlines plans to order 20 new aircraft, eight Boeing (BA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) 787-9s and 12 Boeing 737-900s, at a cost of $2.5 billion in April 2008, chairman Udom Tantiprasongchai said on Wednesday.

Delivery of the first plane was expected in 2011 and the new aircraft would replace aging ones and expand its fleet to 30-35 from 18 now, Udom told Reuters.
No corresponding UFOs on Boeing's site, meaning this would be a new order.

awesome for boeing and orient thai, since we are discussing this airline, why does One-Two-GO's 747-100s have the long hump like the 300s and 400s?

Great news for Orient Thai! I guess the 787s will replace the 747s (but I would love to see the 747s stay around for a bit longer - but profitability trumps all...) and the 737s to replace the MD-80s (from One-Two-Go)? But then again, they are taking the MD-80s for JAL, so maybe the 737s will replace and/also support the MD-80s for a while?
Whatever is necessary, is never unwise.

They have the Stretched Upper Deck conversion. KLM did it to a few -200s IIRC.

Unconfirmed rumours say that the MD-80s will be replaced by the 737-900ERs and that the deal with JAL could be folded for mostly unknown reasons. Up until now One-Two-GO received only one 134-seat MD-87 from JAL but the deal is for 13 more MD-81/-87s. Several factors may indicate that One-Two-GO is preparing a radical switsch in the way of making business.
