  • Virgin Atlantic confirms ten new A330s, ditches A340s

“We don’t have any more A340s on order,” said a spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic to e-Travel Blackboard. “The A330s are more fuel efficient and are more suitable for us for our route development.”

The new A330-300 long-range aircraft from Airbus will be flown by Virgin Atlantic in a three-class configuration.

Virgin Atlantic will be leasing the additional four A330s with AerCap.

So much for the "4 Engines 4 Long Haul" slogan! What about the A346s?

hiya, as far as i know Virgin still intends to fly the A346 but as ordered the A330, as they were needed to offer more frequencies on existing routes that do not need more than one A346. Also to allow them to look at new destinations that do not need as many seats on the route. They have just decided not to order anymore new A346's. But their fleet of them should still remain in service. At least for the foreseeable future. But yeah your right, they will not be able to resurrect the 4 engines for long haul slogan. Take care

I'm not surprised that they decided to take no more A340s as it may be considered to be "old technology and non-fuel efficient" and going with A330s instead. They'll keep the A346s for while and we'll see if they go with the A350 to replace them in the future.
