  • U.K. Firm Pleads Guilty to Illegally Exporting Boeing 747 Aircraft to Iran

This is one of those 747's seen at AMS. KLM performed maintenance on them without knowing that they went to Iran afterwards!

First of it's Iran, and second, there is an embargo on Western products sold to the Iran that has been in place for decades and thus everyone, including the company who sold the plane, should know damn well about.

I find this whole thing a bit odd in that, well, with an embargo on Iran, it would be quite easy to know the Iran Air (or any Iranian airline's) fleet easily. Newer aircraft and/or western technology would be easily spotted (it's not too difficult to differentiate between a 742 or a 747SP and a 744). In other words, how were they hoping to hide the aircraft? Chop off the winglets and fly the aircraft under a false reg? Or, is the 747's technology worth more than the aircraft (as a whole)? Or, could they reverse engineer parts already (without the need for an actual working replica)?

Another thing, how would the embargo be enforced? For example, if Iran Air (or, more precisely, an Iranian airline) were the use the 747 to fly to, for example, Europe, can the aircraft be impounded? What routes do you think that these 747s will be flying?

Anyway, great move on the behalf of the agents that got this aircraft to Iran, and to those that were there to receive it. One way to shore up anti-American support, I assume, is to 'steal' an American aircraft. Hypocrisy, I think not!
Whatever is necessary, is never unwise.

These 747-400's went to Mahan Air afterwards. They were expected last Month back at AMS for parking but they returned enroute back to Teheran. I think they were a bit afraid that they would be impounded after this news came out about Blue Sky.

The same happend with this 747

Here still in service with Martinair

Withdrawn from use and registered in the US

Sold to Turkey wich is still legal at this point

But then she was resold to Iran against the embargo!

The Turkish airline lost her license after this scam but Iran Air is happily operating now a fine 'new' classic 747.

The same thing happens all the time with the new A300/310/320's Mahan Air still gets, most of the time imported via Armenia....
