I think some of the B737 MAX's will replace the older B757's.

I just wonder what aircraft will eventually replace the B757's in their transatlantic operations.

Boeing and Icelandair announced on Thursday that the island nation's largest carrier had ordered a dozen Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 aircraft.

"Icelandair says the new planes, expected to enter the fleet beginning in 2018, will augment their fleet of 757s, not replace them."

The 737 is not new to the Icelandair fleet as they have operated -300s and -400s in the past.

Icelandair has a fleet of 20 aircraft including 4 cargo ones. I don't think they are planning to almost double their fleet from 2018.

Once tiny Icelandair operated the 737-400 between Iceland and Halifax/Canada. During the first half of the 1990s I remember that Icelandair "had four 737-400s and four 757-200s" + Fokker 50s
