Iran Air (IR, Tehran Mehrabad International (THR)) has retired its last three B727-200 Adv.s from active service and parked them at Tehran Mehrabad International (THR) according to Aerotransport. The three aircraft registered EP-IRR (MSN 20946), EP-IRS (20947) and EP-IRT (21078 ) had been originally delivered to Iran Air between 1974 and 1975 directly from Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare International (ORD)) several years before the Iranian revolution in 1979.

Hopefully these 727s won't be scrapped. They should be preserved if possible. Nearly 40 years of service - amazing fact despite the fact that the long usage was probably not based on the fact that the 727 is a beautifully-looking aircraft but political circumstances.
What is the direct replacement of these 727s? AS far as I know Iran Air Tour replaced their Tupolev's with MD-80s.

Well they will be scrapped is my bet.
Not really impressed by 40 years of service.
I am impressed they kept them in the air so long with the embargo in place.
Replacement would be A320's obtained from obscure sources as the Iranian's always do. Iran Air has allready a few A320 in svc if I am right.

i've worked on the 727-200 for the last 4 years, def an amazing airplane, and something that can turn a profit no doubt. Boeing is tryin to put it to bed thow, puttin out SB's and AD's left right and center, and also taking months to offer engineering for repairs etc. end of an era no doubt!

Is there still an airline left on this planet who operates the 727 on scheduled passenger flights?
Guess IranAir and Aerosur were the last ones...

Aerosur (airline stopped their ops I think?)
Air Libya (?)
Ariana Afghan Airlines (?)
Iran Air (now retired)
Iran Asseman Airlines
TAME (?)
I am quiet sure that Iran Asseman operated three of their four 727s in December 2012.

It it really surreal that only twelve years ago the big US-carriers operated rather large fleets of Boeing 727s and in Europe Iberia still operated the 727 until the end of summer of 2001. The 727 is a wonderful classic design. I was always amazed to see Lufthansa 727-200s doing their duties or to ride in them as a younger boy.
