  • Aer Lingus launches Toronto, relaunches SFO!

As of next Summer, Ireland's Aer Lingus will be adding service to SFO (five weekly, A330-200) and YYZ (daily, 757).

San Francisco was once of the first routes launched when the EU/US Open Skies deal was signed, but was cancelled due to the economic downturn (it didn't help that the initial schedule all but eliminated any possibility of connections from other EU routes). The new schedule involves a 12.20 departure from DUB, arriving into SFO at 15.20; the YYZ route involves a 14.00 departure from Dublin.

Aer Lingus is due to begin operating 757s from this Winter; the aircraft are currently operated by Finnair, which will replace them with sharklet-equipped A321s; ironically, EI may well be doing the same in due course; it is said to be looking at the A321NEO as a 757 replacements; the 757 should be a much better fit than A330s on seasonal routes such as SNN-JFK/BOS. It's not yet clear if EI will operate the aircraft on other routes from DUB, apart from YYZ.

The 757 will actually be operated by an Irish charter company called Air Contractors, which will wet lease the aircraft to EI. The Aer Lingus 757s will be equipped in a C12Y165 configuration.
