Had they done downwind, base leg, final (instead of going out to run checklists) they would likely be not in a hospital (one of them was in critical condition) and the NTSB would have a full airplane to investigate the incident (instead of having to dive for the boxes and pieces to investigate the accident)

Yes, why they didn’t “immediately” return seems strange.

Maybe improvisation. One engine out and the other running hot should be immediate return. That’s most likely a common issue, such as fuel, so both should be expected to fail.Originally posted by Gabriel View Post

From back-seating, it SEEMS like we carry some power roughly 80% through the flare and then ‘retard’ a few seconds before touchdown.
To do this with no power would require some…improvisation.
