Had they done downwind, base leg, final (instead of going out to run checklists) they would likely be not in a hospital (one of them was in critical condition) and the NTSB would have a full airplane to investigate the incident (instead of having to dive for the boxes and pieces to investigate the accident)

From back-seating, it SEEMS like we carry some power roughly 80% through the flare and then ‘retard’ a few seconds before touchdown.
To do this with no power would require some…improvisation.
