gabe, i'm not sure what your point is here. even if board members are shareholders, legally, their loyalty and responsibility is primarily to the corporation, not themselves and other shareholders. what they do in practice may be different. i'm just telling you what the law says

I work for Dell. Michael Dell was (still is) the CEO and president of the board. And the #1 shareholder. Yet, the board would not accept the long-term growth / investment plan (which included buying a bunch of companies that were not competitors but complemented very well Dell's business) because while most agreed that it was going to be successful and the returns would be almost immediate, most of these returns would go, for several years, to pay the multi-Billon dollars debt that the company would incur. Michael Dell had to buy the company and go private to implement the changes. Then yes, becoming the smallest of the only 2 remaining shareholders (himself and the investment firm who bought most of the stocks), he could implement the changes needed to secure the profitability of the company in the long term.
And this is not the exception.

Back on topic. Money is always a good topic. 10 or 20 minutes ago I wondered what aviation safety could be worth, if you look on your monthly pay check.
PHK or KHK (with not really a visible difference on your pay check?) in Germany do not come much further within 4 weeks as a let's say rather young jet pilot.
And then here in Germany we no longer have to wonder why nobody likes to work for the Police. 2 to 4 body bags per day, for less than 46000,- per year,
with more than 10 or 15 years of experience,
that isn't something which would drag me into the Kriminalpolizei (definitely not with Gehaltsstufe A11...).
Not since I know that a municipal tax inspector in Germany, who probably never in his whole life has ever seen one dead body,
is paid with Gehaltsstufe B6, which is 126000,- per year (!) .
And now back on topic.
PS: Gabe my friend, now since 15 years it's the first time when we talk about places where we see each other. And since today I know the company who stands behind you. And what do you think about the two numbers which I've mentioned here? Rather ridiculous or completely ridiculous in your eyes,
as I assume..The German long haul is alive, 65 years and still kicking.
The Gold Member in the 747 club, 50 years since the first LH 747.
And constantly advanced, 744 and 748 /w upper and lower EICAS.

Rather higher than here in Germany, as I'd assume, also within United Airlines. Which leads us back on topic...The German long haul is alive, 65 years and still kicking.
