A pilot has been killed in a helicopter crash near Sandtoft, Doncaster, Sky sources say.

The aircraft came down near the town of Sandtoft.

It was thought to have been travelling either to or from Leeds Bradford airport.

Both South Yorkshire and Humberside fire and rescue services are attending the scene.

Sky sources say passers-by tried to revive the pilot after the crash.

I think I read that this was his first solo flight.... maybe panic set in

May God help this brave soul to find peace in the afterlife. My condolences go out to his family and friends, and I hope that they can take comfort in the fact that he passed while engaged in an activity that he obviously enjoyed.

The problem gets noticed and repaired in flight - it malfunctionates, but the helicopter/lane is able to bypass the failure, and the dead component is replaced. the probability is done so that you return safely.
