A little sparse on details, aren't we orangehuggy?

      (From April 27, http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=145323A)

former Champion Air Boeing 727-200, with Mexican registration XB-MNP, crashed today at Laguna Salada, west of the San Felipe-Mexicali Highway, in a National Geographic crash test experiment, the 3 crew members of the Boeing 727 jumped to safety by parachute, prior to the controlled crash test. The test was performed with coodination of the Mexican DGAC and goverment agencies, all this for the National Geograpic series "Segundos catastróficos" (Seconds from Disaster).
Not sure if this is exactly aviation safety related, but I guess they might have been testing something to do with airplane crashes, so ok.

the landing did not break it, only the powerful upward jolt on the forward fuselage created by the cantilever effect of the 3 heavy engines in the back is what caused the breakup (I think)

                        drug drone fails in test?

Mexico doesn't have anything better to do with all of that drug money so they play with "drones" on kind of a bigger scale?

We (the US), prollaly "funded" it under some wacky pretense.

What sort of controlled crash wouldn't flare before impact? I fail to see what this test was supposed to prove.

A sad end to a great airplane that I was fortunate to ride a couple times just a few short years ago.

Would be interesting to see the technical details of how they guided the plane and how the crew got out. I'm assuming out the rear door.
