  • US Airways AHN-CLT-BOS-PQI (2003)

    US Airways Express flight 5541
    Equipment- Beechcraft 1900D N138YV
    Depart AHN-6:35
    Arrive CLT-7:30

I got to AHN about 6, parked literally 30 feet from the door. I hurried took my bag in as it was raining. I walked in, and the check in desk was right there, not even 10 feet from the door. I checked my bag in no time, and went to the seating area. About 6:15 they told us to get in line for security checks. With only 12 people on the flight, they searched us pretty thoroughly. After being going in to a room to go out, we walked out a covered walkway, on the tarmac, and stepped on the plane. The pilots gave the safety breifing and what not, and then it was time to leave. They started up the engines, and man are those things loud for props. We taxied out to the runway. The pilots fired up the engines, and man does that thing have a powerful takeoff. We climbed up to just barely above the storm clouds, and leveled off at about FL190. There was mild choppiness almost the whole way, except once. About 25 minutes out of CLT, we hit some bad turbulence for about 45 seconds, and then it went back to normal. We landed in CLT during a rain shower, so we had to run to the terminal after deboarding.

    Equipment- Boeing 737-4B7 N776AU
    Depart CLT-8:30
    Arrive BOS-10:15

I boarded good ol' N776AU for the second time now, and took my seat in 10F. We taxied back from the gate and taxied out to the runway. We were number 2 for takeoff, behind a US Airways 733. The pilots let the engines spool up, and off we went. Once we got to our cruising altituse of FL330, drinks and snacks came around, but it was nothing spectacular. I had water and a bag of pretzels. There wasn't much to see out the window, so I read through Attache and sky mall before we started our approach in to BOS. Our descent was fairly normal, and we landed. We taxied to concourse B, and then it was a 1:30 layover before our flight to PQI.

    US Airways Express Flight ????
    Equipment-Beechcraft 1900D N60MJ
    Depart BOS-11:45
    Arrive PQI-12:30

I went downstars to the US Airways Express part of the terminal, and it's in pretty sad shape. It has all the old, ripped, worn seats, and pretty bad carpeting. I watched the Beech 1900 going to Bar Harbor, ME board and leave, then it was out turn. We boarded our Beech 1900 that was in pretty rough shape. The flight was 100% full, so there was no shot at a different seat. I didn't care, I wasn't in the back, so it was ok. It was blazing hot until they started the engines up. The air vents then came on blasting the coldest air you've ever felt. my vent was broken and blasting air. the one at my legs was doing the same, so I put my bag in front of it, but when we got to PQI, there was water condensed all over it it was so cold. The flight ras realativly smooth the whole way, and we landed in PQI about 10 minutes early.

Overall, it was a good experience

service 5/5 nice gate agents, nice flight attendents, nice pilots, and a good experience

flights 3/5 it would be better except for the AHN-CLT leg

I'll probably post the return leg tomorrow

Do you live in or near Athens? I flew out of AHN once a long time ago... Don't remember any of it though because I was little.

I live about 45 miles outside of Athens, but it's an easy cruise to and from my house, and it takes just as much time to get there as it does to get to ATL.

Sounds like a good trip. I have questions for you.
On another thread we were trying to figure out if they still left the cockpit door open on the Beech 1900, and if not how was it reinforced. I used to love sitting in 1a and watching the landing through the cockpit window. Of course, I havnt been on a Beech 1900 since 9/11.

Also, the Beech1900 always put me to sleep, even if it was a 25 min flt.
He who expected nothin......aint gonna be deceived-JR

On the Air Midwest flights, the cockpit door was closed, but on both the Colgan flights, It was left open, and it was really fun to watch what was going on.
