Just got back yesterday... I'll post the return trip as well (but you know how I do it... I'll post the return in a seperate post for easier reading, later today or tomorrow).
Getting to the airport
I stayed at my dad's in Philly on Saturday night, because he was coming with me as well. However, instead of taking the train to the airport this time, I drove for a change. The flight left at 12:25, and my dad insisted on leaving at 9:15. So, for the first time in my life, I actually drove to the Philadelphia airport (in the past, I've always been dropped off or have taken the train). We got to my dad's favorite little airport parking place by 9:45, and were in the airport terminal by 9:55.
Check-in, security, and boarding
I had tried to print the boarding passes off my computer both the night before and the morning of the flight, but for some reason AirTran's website was screwed up. When I got to the airport, there was a pretty long line at the AirTran counter for check-in, but luckily we weren't checking any bags, so we could use the kiosk. We had our boarding passes within minutes, and I chose seats 17A and 17C, the closest to the front available. We then proceeded to security, where there was an extremely long (but still fastmoving) line. We were through security and in the terminal by 10:45. Once getting to the concourse, concourse D (the first time I had ever been in D), I grabbed a slice of pizza and sat and ate and read my newspaper a bit. Then, I took a walk down the looooooooooonnng terminal, and saw plenty of AirTran 717's at the end (the end of terminal D is the airtran terminal), a couple of US Airways planes, and for the first time, 1 or 2 US Airways E-170s-- they are great lookin birds! Boarding was started at 11:55, and I was on the plane by 12:05.
The flight
The flight pushed back exactly ontime, at 12:25, and we taxiied for quite a while, as the f/a's did their safety briefing. By the time we hit rotation, my dad was already asleep and snoring loudly. The flight time was announced as 2:09, and we were in the air by 12:45 and at crusing altitude (31,000) at around 1:10. Beverage and "snack" service came around-- I got 2 packets of "gourmet" pretzels and a FULL CAN of soda, without even asking!! The F/A's were very polite, attentive, and energetic, and made the 100% full flight a great experience. The flight consisted of a great airline, with great service, perfect timliness, and a great plane, giving my vote for this flight a 10/10!
We took the "SXM approach" (over the beach) into PBI, and arrived at the gate at PBI at 3:34. Then, I went down to Enterprise and we were on our way!
