  • SWISS PRINT & NEG, PART 2 the Neg

Or the ying and the yang, depending how you can see this metaphor ! Thanks again for your visit and reading.
Now the return leg which proved to be pretty inverted from the previous one while things evolved starting with the checking-in, custom clearance and people-mover to terminal E steps.

The convention was pretty nice, an auction sale on Saturday Night and a Ramp tour on Sunday morning were among the highlights of the event.

    June 28th 2004
    LX 686
    Swiss International Airlines
Airbus A.320-214, HB-IJN, cn 643, originally introduced into svce by SR
    [photoid=226872]
    ZRH/Terminal E-CDG/Terminal 2B, 256 nautical miles
    20.10/21.30
Capt Jean Bernard Gerhardt, F/O Michel Salsmann acting as Pilot Flying
Boarding 19.46 thru gate E36, opposite E56 at arrival, same seat 29C
The screens are already unfolded.Kept mute but not blind they unfolded a heavy supply of Tom & Jerry classic cartoons, until push-back + engine start at 20.27 when the 3D English only animated safety demo filled the screens. This time the delay was caused by connecting passengers who could not located and whose luggage had to be off-loaded ! Barely 2 minutes later Juliet-November departed the gate and made her way to runway 32/14 from which we lifted off at 20.31. When climbing the 3twenty flew through some severe turbulences fueled by thunderstorms hitting the area. At cruise level, the screens got lit again with Tom & Jerry while a quick food and drink service was intiated. Not eager to run after an open outlet after arrival (don't forget were are in France, the country of no-service), I came to the point of parting with 11 Euros which bought a pretty good beef sandwich and a 25 cl bottle of Old River, a good Australian red Cabernet Shiraz wine. Some duty free sales soon followed the food and drinks while a feature on the A.340-300 in LX c/s and now Swiss' new flagship took over from Tom & Jerry. Approach was soon proceeded with a long descent beginning at 21.10. Over the P/A, Pilot Flying F/O Salsmann gave the status of the Euro2004 Soccer Quarterfinal game opposing the Czech Republic and Denmark underway at Porto. (the Czech ultimately won 3-0). Finals were initiated at 21.20 and 4 minutes later Juliet-November touched down on runway 26L/08R concluding a 55 minute stint in the airways. But reaching the gate was a pretty lenghy affair and we were finally docked to B26 at 21.36....Once in the terminal it was "welcome in France" at its best, with just one custom booth kept opened for the who flight arrival

Thanks Patrick for your time in posting your good comment.
About the convention, we enjoyed it as far trade between fellow vendors is concerned. On the other hand, it was pretty an intimate affair as buyers did not show up, simply because there was an Air Show taking place at Bern-Belp over the same week-end. Acting as top performers of the airshow was U BET the reclently importated Breitling sponsorized Constellation along with one of the 3 Classic Air DC.3s. Plus off course some other vintage, and the Swiss Air Force aerobatic team flying of F.5s.
About future reports, I am piling materials for the previously announced "RetroRidair". I don't forget.

Alain, great trip report! I enjoyed a lot reading it.

A thing that surprised me: I have flown LX back in May 2003 EZE-ZRH-EZE and, in that flight, security video was in German and English. After that, we were showed a thirty-second message in French and Italian saying "plz for more information read the booklet, etc.". Is this a new video?

Too bad LX is now a non-frills airline in their European flights. More and more airlines are following FR and EZY steps...

          Thanks Marcos
About the video, I guess so, since as far the narrow body fleet members are concerned there's no specific indication of aircraft type in the feature. I think this to be a standardized video for LX 32x family of aircrafts.
About the heavymetals such as the 332 and 343 I don't know.
On the other hand, about the MD11, this would not a surprise to hear the original Swissair video had some of its part reworked in order to avoid the appearance of SR logo and brandname here and then.
On the flight to no-frills, a SR retiree and fellow long time slide collector to whom I spoke of this just replied that formerly every one was competing to be acknowledged as the best in town, now every one does the same to be the worst !
