After spending 10 days in CA including meeting some brits and a certain webmaster. It was time to return to the east coast. Our flight was scheduled to depart at 9:10am. We took our rental car back and were driven back. We then proceeded to check our bags as we had checked in online. We went up to the kiosk but we were behind a family of 15 loud, confused Italians. Understandably it took a while for the agent to get to us. We went to security and I had my id and boarding pass checked. However instead of going through the close security we had to go around and wait in another line. We finally made it through security and looked at the monitors to find our gate.
It was 68A. If you have ever been to LAX you probably know that gate 68A is at the very end of terminal 6. I mean the very end. I felt like I was walking to BWI. And it felt like I was going back to the mid-80's. We found a seat. However they were the last seats so people that came later kind of circled us eyeing our seats. We soon boarded in group 3. I walked to my seat. I got the window as I prefer it. However in the aisle seat was a Norwegian au pair. I have never seen hair that blond. However I can ogle beautiful girls anytime. Window seat on a 757 occurs less of the time.
We were delayed by about 20 minutes as more fuel was added because our route would be longer than planned due to weather. We taxied out to the runways on the southside of LAX so I was offered a view of Imperial Hill on departure. I am always impressed with 757 climb performance. Soon after takeoff we entered the clouds. We turned to the south and continued that way for a while. We soon turned to the east and climbed to 31,000ft. We crossed the deserts and soon passed to the eastern part of the U.S. As we went further east the clouds built. At one point the pilot told us to get in our seats. We shortly passed some thunderheads that were building quickly. I read a book as the pilot didn't turn on Channel 9
and the movie was 'Jersey Girl'.
After a meal service (omlette or fruit tray) we began our descent. After a while I began recognizing things such as the Potomac River and D.C. I thought we were going to make the 33L approach but the pilot had said that the wind was from the south at 8 knots. The pilot was south of the 33L approach so I figured he must be going to runway 10. He did and we were treated to some sharp turns. We made a rough touchdown with the right main touching down before the left. We turned off off runway 10 onto runway 4 which is used as a taxiway because it is close to Pier D. We pulled into the gate 3 minuted late as we had made up some time on the flight. We gathered our luggage(noting that another part of my suitcase had been ripped off). It had been a fun time but my next flight isn't till Nov. on DL, BWI-ATL-DAB-ATL-BWI.
