As I have mentioned before on this form, my uncle is a 747 captain for British Airways with over 30 years of flying experience under his belt. He has literally been all over the world and has seen it all.
He has warned me about flying carriers from third world countries and has pointed to maintenance and safety issues. He said said that what many third world countries consider sufficient maintenance is not the same as the most other countries. Many of these carriers buy aircraft from U.S. carriers that are phasing them out.
He has given EgyptAir, Air India, Air Pakistan, Iran Air, Air China, Aeroflot, among many others as airlines to avoid. Closer to home (U.S.), he has warned me about discount carriers since some of them operate older aircraft and can have questionable maintenance and pointed to the Value Jet crash as a good example. I don't see the discount carriers falling out of the sky but that's what he says.
He's a good guy with some great stories. He always quizzes me when on I fly about which carrier I am on and so on. He wants to make sure that his family members travel safely.

Indianair:
I meant Pakistan International Airline (PIA). I just happen to call them Air Pakistan. Sorry for any confusion. I am not going to get involved in a debate or a writing campaign here. I am only saying what my uncle told me. That's his opinion and he is entitled to it. Plus, I know for a fact that he talks other pilots when in other countries especially when on lay overs. He finds out what happens in other countries especially those that he flies out of.
Airline safety is a big concern of his including maintenance and especially security in this day and age. When you have his kind of experience, you tend to know what you are talking about.

I thought not...
I HAVE (more than once)...and I'm still very much alive.
I mean no disrespect, I'm sure he knows what he's talking about, but it's extremely hard to judge an airline without actually flying them."The Director also sets the record straight on what would happen if oxygen masks were to drop from the ceiling: The passengers freak out with abandon, instead of continuing to chat amiably, as though lunch were being served, like they do on those in-flight safety videos."

No, he has not flown them. He would have no reason to since he gets free travel on British Airways. I know that he has talked to pilots from those airlines especially when on a layover at JFK for instance especially since many of them stay at the same hotels. His main concern with third world country airlines is their pilot training and maintenance. Some countries do not have the same requirements as the FAA as an example and may not do the same hourly checks as often.
Most pilots he meets are pretty honest when they talk. I know that my uncle and his first officer typically have a beer or two when they arrive at their hotel and it's not uncommon to run into other pilots from other airlines with the same idea. They see each other and they talk like most guys would. He has said that many of them complain about their companies or are critical of their procedures.
That's his source of information. Let's face it, the pilots would know! Best regards.

he's never gonna admit that his favorite airline might not be perfect.

Burns I had suspected it but know I know for sure.
You ACTUALLY think people are jealous of you! Just because daddy flies for Northwest doesn't turn us green with envy...reality check.
Sure we are jealous, but we are jealous of different people...people who actually do things for themselves, not those who bask in their dad's/uncle's glow. We are jealous of (and we admire) people like Chris Kilroy, Anthony Jackson, Laxet and the list goes on...
Also, find ONE post on this forum saying that I go to Princeton University. I just live there (the town of Princeton), and I'm damn lucky, because it's a lovely place.
Oh, and most people here have no beef with PT, Pete, Assghanistan, and the tons of other people who actualy work in the airline industry."The Director also sets the record straight on what would happen if oxygen masks were to drop from the ceiling: The passengers freak out with abandon, instead of continuing to chat amiably, as though lunch were being served, like they do on those in-flight safety videos."

I am in no way defending Burns, but why do you all care? Take his word for what it is worth...
If you think he is arrogant, then just try to ignore him. Many people today are arrogant or ignorant, but you can't waste your time worrying about them.
We don't need another 10 page flame-fest right now...Fly Raleigh-Durham International, with direct flights on Air Canada, AirTran, American Airlines, American Eagle, America West, Continental Airlines, Continental Express, Delta Airlines, Delta Connection, jetBlue, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Express and US Airways to:
ATL, AUS, BWI, BOS, CHS, CLT, MDW, ORD, CVG, CLE, DFW, DTW, FLL, BDL, HOU, IND, LAS, LAX, LGW, MEM, MIA, MSP, BNA, EWR, MSY, JFK, LGA, ORF, MCO, PHL, PHX, PIT, STL, SLC, TPA, YYZ, DCA and IAD.
