Well it was finally my day to go back home to good ol Jersey. I had a great two months in the homeland haha and im hoping to go back again soon.
Well to get on the flights, had to wake up at a lovely 6AM and left the house at 6:30 for Ataturk International Airport. Istanbul traffic was surprisinly not busy that day. Got to the airport early and just hung around the restaurant, my cousin that i was traveling with just got some water, and her sister got some breakfast before work. So we checked in less than 5 mins, we were so early so there was only a small line. So in a short time my cousin left for work, and me and my cousin headed to our gate. We got to our gate and it was semi full of people waiting for our flight. So we took a seat, and it was a good one indeed, we had a great view of planes taxiing past us and started a line up for departures. And we could also see them landing on the other runway. It was funny seeing our tiny Air France A320 sitting next to that Turkish A340.
So as we started to board, we were in the back of the line, but we were lucky because they were boarding according to row, and we were one of the first rows called. So once in the cabin, we got situated, and waited for everyone else to sit. Once seated, i noticed the ramp crew had almost all cargo and baggage on board. Push back commenced, and we had a short taxi to the runway. Takeoff was immediate and we thrusted forward quickly.
Climb was very smooth and quick, but the view of Istanbul wasnt that good because it was very hot and smoggy that day. Our plane had no tv's so my entertainment was my cd player and my window. We had nice views over Europe. We got served breakfast, which i didnt eat much except the orange juice and croisant. Quite good.
Our decent into Paris was very bumpy. I have never been to France, and i must say the airport on the outside is fantastic. On, approach we made numerous turns to dodge the clouds, but we still went through a lot of them. Once on final though, there was a parallel runway on the other side of the airport, and there was an Air France A340 on approach a bit ahead of us. It was really cool to watch him approach next to us. Landing was very smooth, and once vacated, we had to wait a couple mins on a taxiway. While waiting, i watched a couple of departure and landings, very close to our plane, i loved it. So we began taxiing again, and we passed some British Airways ERJ 145's, a Luftansa 737, numerous Air France planes, and an Air India 747. Once parked, we got out quick. Now the inside of CDG is another story...
We needed to catch the bus to get to the other terminal for our flight to PHL. The line for this was at least a 20 min wait. Then once we got to the other terminal, there was a 30 min wait for security just to get into the terminal. It was very stupid that we just came from a flight and now we have to wait in security again. Once through that, the terminal was like a zoo! You couldnt walk 2 feet without bumping into someone. There were lines everywhere waiting for boarding. We took a quick bathroom break, and headed upstairs to our gate. We were so late but it was actually good because everyone else was boarded except for some of us coming on previous flights. Check in was easy but on our way down to the plane down the jetway, they were checking random people, and of course they checked me. Maybe it was because I had my Holland football shirt on
he patted me down and i had to empty my pocket's batteries for cd player, and gum. And he searched my entire bookbag which was full to the max so i had to fit everything back in. Once on the plane, i couldnt believe how nice it was. It was an Air France A330, and it was nice all right. Every seat had a PTV, which i loved, and the seats were very comfortable, i couldnt believe we were in coach. We had a long taxi and i watched a couple Air France A330, A340's take off ahead of us. We had a long take off roll, and finally in the air. After takeoff, i saw downtown Paris in the distance and i saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time in person. Once at cruising altitude, i sat back, and decided to try my PTV. I watched Shrek 2, which is like the best movie ever, or one of the best. Watched that twice, and it was time for food. I got a chicken meal, it was delicious, what a great flight. I checked our position and speed and all from time to time, and was watching the Ladykillers, also a very good movie. Me and my cousin didnt get any sleep as we were busy with our Tv's haha.
On our approach, we followed the Jersey coast down to about Atlantic City, and turned towards Philly. We slowed quickly and made a left turn to line up with ILS 27R. Smooth approach with a nice smooth landing. Quick taxi to Terminal A. After we got off, we headed to customs and passport control, no lines for American citizens so i was through in a couple minutes. Even though my cousin has been here over a year and going to school here, she does not have her citizenship yet. So she had to wait in the international lines. Which were extremely long may I add. So i waited for over a half hour, and by that time i figured id go get the luggage. Found the luggage quite quickly which surprised me, and when i pulled the last bag off the belt, she came out. We got our bags, and went out to where the people wait and my dad was right there in the front, he followed us to the exit and my mom was there to. Got home that night, had a good dinner, and i had to go to a Sweet 16 that night. Been home a couple hrs and had to go out allready haha it was a friend since i was little so i would feel bad if i didnt go. Well anyways that was my trip home, hope you liked it.
