Got to CMH around 2:30 for our flight to ATL, something I was looking forward to- I'd never been on a 737-800 & had always wanted to try one out. Before going through security, we stopped & talked to one of our friends who's a gate agent for Delta in CMH. He takes full advantage of his company travel...he had been in Argentina the previous week for all of 12 hours, was going to Colombia that week & is planning a trip to India in July. After leaving him, we headed through security & down to gate C56. When we got there, we were told that the flights (there was another ATL flight at C55) would be delayed due to weather. The first flight would leave at 5:20, ours at 5:30. So with plenty of time to kill & a camera that had just been charged, I shot some of the stuff that was parked at C Concourse.

DL 931 pulling away after its delay.

After a long delay, we finally got to board the 738 & I headed to seat 13A, which was a window seat with no window. I didn't want this for the flight, so I snuck up to 10A in the hopes that nobody would board & kick me out. Shortly after, we were told that we would be delayed around 20 minutes due to continuing bad weather. They said it would be too much of a hassle to let everyone off & reboard them, so they kept us on board & played Delta Horizons on the screens. We finally got clearance & pushed back. The screens now showed the safety video, which said "Delta Shuttle" instead of "Delta". Once that ended & both engines cranked up...another ground stop. They shut off the engines, restarted "Horizons", and we sat for about 1 1/2 hours.
After a while, I started to get really bored. Finally, I decided to see if I could visit the cockpit. We had pushed back, so I doubted I could, but they let me in. I got to sit down in the F/O's seat & talk to him for about 30 seconds before Delta 594 was told that they could start the engines again. Ok, well...at least I got to see a 737NG's cockpit in person. I went back to my seat & we taxied to 10L, held for a minute & started our takeoff roll, complete with a high-pitched buzzsaw whine like on the 757. We climbed out & they finished "Delta Horizons", giving us a drink service in the middle of the flight.
Finally, around 8:15, we landed in a very foggy ATL, cleared 8L & taxied to the gate. We weren't sure if we'd make our connection, seeing as it was supposed to leave at 8:35. When we checked the video monitors in the terminal, we saw that DL 1279 had been delayed to 10:00. Problem solved. This even allowed us time to get something to eat, which was a Godsend for me...I was starved at this point. We went to the food court in Concourse A, where I picked up some really greasy, but good Popeye's chicken.

As mentioned the flight left later than scheduled. We pushed at 10pm in very low visibility & a few minutes later, we were headed toward Daytona. There were a few bumps while climbing, but then things smoothed out. There was a drink service & shortly thereafter, we started our descent...which is when we got bounced around like a basketball for the better part of 5 minutes. We popped out of the clouds & then landed on 7L at Daytona, where we rolled out on the runway & then got thrust forward by the pilots slamming on the brakes to clear the runway on a taxiway close to the terminal. We taxied to gate 2, deplaned, picked up our bags & started our spring break.
