  • Auckland to Shanghai, Shanghai to Frankfurt which airline/s?

I am going to Shanghai for a business meeting and will continue from there to Frankfurt. Which airline/s will you recommend for either sectors? I am an Air New Zealand FFP member, how can I get the most out of the trip? Any idea is appreciated.

You should take Thai Airways to PVG from BKK via AKL

You can take diffrenet airlines with Star Allinace.

Also, you can take LH to FRA from PVG.

I know this may be a little hard, but Qantas now operate their A330-300 to Shanghai. The A330 is rated very higly and comes with a 34" pitch, and now economy class has become equiped with AVOD.

Funny after talking to my travel agent. Air NZ claims that the revised NZ program stress on how much you pay for the airfares rather than the distance you flew. But if you think about it, to earn the most Air NZ Airpoints Dollars would mean to fly the most segments. Based on that, I was suggested fly Asiana from AKL to PVG. Routing would be AKL -- SYD (operated by Air NZ) -- ICN -- PVG. Also, if flying direct from PVG to FRA would have only one segment. So I would take Austrian (OS) via VIE to FRA. This would really contradict what NZ claims because the fares are even lower than direct flight. The new theory may bring benefits to trans-Tasman route or domestic flights but it surely does not apply to long haul.

Wouldn't that be a little out of the way considering he is starting in Auckland.

            From AKL to SHA
            - TG thru BKK or SQ thru SIN, free stop over possible or even
            AKL-SYD - NZ
            SYD-SIN - SQ
            SIN-BKK - SQ
            BKK-PVG - TG
            From PVG to FRA
            - SK thru CPH or OS thru VIE

Why not AKL-HKG (NZ) HKG-PVG (KA)?

Air NZ have some pretty good fares in conjunction with KA on this route - from memory, it's called a 'Four Corners Asia' fare.

This would be the best and quickest option. Then from PVG get on LH to FRA. I think LH have started fitting some of their 744s with the new Business class seats so you may be lucky.

Second best option if you want to go all-Star Alliance and maximize the points would be AKL-SIN (NZ), SIN-PVG (SQ), PVG-FRA (LH) although going via HKG would be much faster.

You're kidding right, why would anyone (and a business traveller at that) want to take 4 different flights involving 3 stops and 3 connections wasting a lot of time on the way when they can have 1 stop and 1 connection?

Just confirmed a fare on OZ. Although OZ no more flies here in Auckland but surprisingly the fare is still available. 3 Routing options: 1) AKL-SYD (on NZ) -ICN-PVG 2) AKL-SIN (on NZ) - ICN-PVG 3) AKL-KIX/NRT (on NZ) -ICN- PVG. 2) & 3) with a NZ$100 surcharge. Gonna make a stop over in Singapore so my itinrerary being AKL-SIN-ICN-PVG-ICN-SYD-AKL 4 Months return.

From PVG I think I will fly OS via VIE. LH both MUC & FRA are pretty full when last enquired.

Good option, you get the opportunity of sampling one of Star's smallest players which would not pop up as an obvious choice. Furthermore, it's a good airline, you should not be dissappointed in flying the off-beaten tracks.
