  • How many had flown on a 707?

    Hi all,

I'm interested to see who ever had the pleasure and privilege of flying on a 707? My first flight was a China Airlines 707-320C from Hong Kong to Kaohsiung on Christmas Day 1982. Because I was very young I couldn't remember much of what happened except we got upgraded to First Class due to overbooking in Economy and the flight seemed to last forever with an extremely loud cabin noise (it was even more so to a 4 year-old having his first ever flight ).

A photo of the same type in CAL livery is shown here:

Taxiing in on a foggy day. Crashed into sea on a training flight Sep 11, 1979 [Kodachrome 25]. B-1834. Boeing 707-324C. JetPhotos.com is the biggest database of aviation photographs with over 5 million screened photos online!

Anyone had flown on this type? Feel free to share your impressions and thoughts about the type of plane.

    Cheers,

    Joel

Wow, that's some list for 707 flights! Quite a few former regulars there I remember from when I lived near LHR.

A type that I always wanted to fly, but sadly never had the chance

          Hello JonyJay

I too did a few domestic runs on B707 in Greece, before they were gone. OA squeezed a few more years out of them using them in domestic routes only. Same with the B727s.

Many, many times on the 707-347Cs that belonged to 437 Sqn of the Canadian Forces. First flight would have been late June 1979 from Trenton-Vancouver, and the last one was Ottawa-Lahr, Germany in August 1992. Places vistied in the interim in a 707 included Goose Bay, Gatwick, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Larnaca, Shearwater, and Comox.

Never flew on a civilian 707.

I've flown on a KC-135, does that count?

It was a pretty fun experience, except it was kinda cold, the heater didn't work very well. Plus there were only 4 windows in the cabin. Still, one of the coolest flights I've been on.
When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.

Congrats for this flight. But ...

                Yes and No
Yes, it looks like a 707 externally
No, it's a completely different family of aircraft and another story.
                For some,
the cabin diameter is not the same.
the construction alloys and structures are not the same
                list goes on
Personnally I keep a different record as I also do for the much closer related 720/Seven Twenty.

So did I, my short hop was an ATH-CFU on board SX-DBD. The last three rows on the right side were used for Medevac. The finals at CFU at 7.00am over the typical island monastery were pretty great.

I only had the pleasure of flying on a 707 twice:

                    1. AA ORD-IAH 4/73 (this was a charter flight, surprisingly the return flight was a 727. Maybe AA needed to position the 707 ai IAH for whatever reason)

                    2. TW JFK-ORD 5/75 (This was a regularly scheduled flight, I guess the flight was continuing to the west coast, can't imagine a 707 flying JFK-ORD only)
Like before, the return flight was a 727.

Sure they did, operated alongside the 727s, shorty 131Bs were commonly scheduled on O & Ds 2hrs & something services.

I flew on a Boeing 707 only twice back in Easter 1983.

The first flight was CAI-LXR-ASW on a Egypt Air plane. This plane looked old and had Air France's logo of the 60's on the seat belt buckles. This flight was very smooth but I don't remember ever experiencing so cramped seats on a plane and I was only 13 almost 14. Anyway, passengers were invited to visit the cockpit in-flight and I didn't miss this chance, of course. I believe this was a B707-320B but I'm not sure about the variant.

The second flight was LXR-CAI on a similar plane. I remember this flight was delayed for more than one hour due to a technical problem, I presume, because there were still some people inspecting an engine while we were already boarding the plane. This was the strangest flight I ever had. The plane took off, climbed, descended and flew the lowest I have ever experienced on a jet plane. I have the feeling that it almost didn't have to descend much to land. I wonder if the pilot was flying so low just in case a crash landing on the desert would be needed. The landing was smooth but the reverse thrust seemed very asymmetrical. I'm not a pilot but it seemed to me that there was something wrong with this plane.

Here are two photos I took of the first plane:

I flew on the Dash-80 when Boeing and the Meuseum of Flight restored it for the Smithsonian. Does that count?
THE VOICE OF REASON HAS SPOKEN!
Pop quiz: Which US president said, "Saddam Hussein has spent the better part of this decade, and much of his nation's wealth, not on providing for the Iraqi people, but on developing nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them."
George W. Bush is not correct. It was Bill Clinton in his 1998 State of the Union speech. HMMMMMMMMM.

Although I would go for a separate record mentioning Boeing 367-80 as for the type, let me write : GOSH !!! CONGRATS, I'am jealous, another reason to regret not to have made anything possible to reach Boeing Field !!! Once again CONGRATS for this unique take.

                              Hi Alain,

Like I wrote, I'm not sure about the B707 type I flew on. However, I'm quite sure about the AF logo on the seat buckles and as far as I remember the seats were light blue. Unfortunately, at that time I didn't know what an aircraft registration was. Didn't Egypt Air at any point buy or lease a B707 previously owned by AF?

This plane seemed to be at least 20 years old in 1983, so I would assume that it was built in the early 60's. Does the title "Air Lease Egypt" in the front of the plane give you any clue?

Unfortunately, I'm not an expert on airline fleets but it would be very interesting for me if you could find anything about this subject.

                              Regards.
