  • SK/TG/OS to Singapore?

    Hey all!
I'm planning to head to Singapore for a week or two later this year, possibly September, and as I checked prices and airlines earlier today, it gave me some choices. I plan on flying Economy as business is a bit out of my reach as it's so shortly after my trip to Turkey

Here are the choices (cheapest first) :
Austrian with a stop in Vienna, possibly in BKK as well.
Thai With a stop in BKK.
    SAS non-stop flight.

    For 100 USD more:
Swiss Air With a stop in Zurich.

    For 150 USD more:
British Airways with a stop in LHR.

    For 200 USD more:
    Singapore Airlines Non-stop.

Also, any info on what a/c I'll be flying with the respective airlines? How is Austrian on this route?
I flew Austrian in December last year on CPH-VIE-YYZ and back (A330 and A340) and I've had better flying experiences... but if the others are as bad if not worse, I'll gladly stick with Austrian

I'll appreciate any help I can get, I haven't flown with half of the airlines here (only SQ, Austrian and Thai- I've flown with SK as well, but only from VIE to CPH, none longhaul).

    Thanks in advance
    Love,

I think you can take TG from CPH-ZRH (SAS star alliance) then ZRH-BKK. I hope

you can be on A340-500 or A340-600.

    TG is cheaper.

    Understand?

I understand, Paul, and thanks so much for your advice! However, it seems cheaper to go on TG from CPH via BKK- of course, that's on 744 (CPH-BKK and BKK-CPH) and A333 (BKK-SIN and SIN-BKK). I also have an option to fly CPH-BKK-CGK-SIN where I get to fly on AB6 on the BKK-CGK route.

Thanks once again, Paul! I'm waiting for the opinion of more people, but I'll definitely check into the CPH-ZRH-BKK-SIN option you described!

EDIT: Paul. the ZRH-BKK-SIN seems way out of reach for me- it's more than 3090 Swiss franc! The CPH-BKK-SIN option is around 1030 swiss franc.

      Thanks!

I would fly TG too if I were you considering that it's cheaper, you get 34'' legroom, adequate catering and very friendly crew. However, for Setember I'm seeing an even more interesting plane combination: B743 on CPH-BKK-CPH and B773 on BKK-SIN-BKK.

The SK flight is not non-stop but via BKK on a A343.

        OS is A32S CHP-VIE, B767 VIE-SIN-VIE and F100 VIE-CHP. It's not via BKK.

ZHR-BKK with TG971 is on a A346 on Tuesdays, Thurdays and Sundays and on a MD11 on the other days.

I haven't flown OS yet and SK for many years though.

        Regards.

I saw that one too- and it definitely seems like an interesting option. However, last time I flew TG (CPH-BKK-SYD) it happened to be a very boring trip as they had no PTVs and I couldn't see much on the bigger tv screens Do they have PTVs now on the 743s?

travellink.dk is telling me that it's a non-stop flight- with departure at 2245 and arrival at 1900 local times (it's listed under "direct flights"). However, you probably know more than them and I don't mind a stop in BKK if it comes to that

Noo, you don't NEED to fly via BKK- but they still have an option where you do. Although, I think I prefer not to Thanks for the a/c info!

Thanks for that! I found that to be way out of my reach though. It's more than twice the cost of the TG CPH-BKK-SIN option!

Thanks so much for your opinion! Thai sounds nice... but if they don't have PTVs, I'd rather fly another airline- I don't need much legroom as long as I have a PTV (being more than 60% blind, I cannot see the big screens they use and I can't wear glasses too much. 12 hrs on a plane with no IFE but radio is a long time and I've already tried it once.

But thanks so much once again! Taking the a/c info into consideration, I think I'll fly SK as I have yet to try their Longhaul service! But I'd love to hear more opinions

You welcome! I think ZRH-BKK is cost more because of new A340-600 also

they come with PTV in eco. classes. Nope, 743 doesnt have PTV.

            What about LH? from CPH-BKK-SIN?

Ah, I would love to try their new A340s! A shame the price is that high If 744/743 don't have PTVs and I have to go on these a/c, I think I would pick another airline.

Lufthansa is around 3000 Swiss franc as well and way out of my reach unfortunately

              Thanks once again Paul!

According to the information I have, they really don't have PTV's.

That schedule is correct. However it's like this SK973 22:45 CHP-14:40 BKK, 15:40 BKK-1900 SIN. This flight makes a 1 hour stop at BKK. "Direct flight" means only that the flight number is the same all the way, but one can have to make several stops and even change planes. In this case, it's just a stop. On the way back it's SK972 21:55 SIN-23:10 BKK, 0:20 BKK-6:30 CHP.

                You're welcome any time Jannichan.

I'm terribly sorry about your sight problem. You'll get PTV's on SK's A343, so SK will be a good choice for you. Of course, if you want to "spoil" yourself with IFE and all the rest go SQ all the way on their B772.

LH don't have PTV's either on their B744's.

Feel free to post any more queries Jannichan.

LOL the boat again! I'd rather fly Thai than going on that (not that Thai is bad- just no PTVs. and the boat doesn't even have anything that RESEMBLES entertainment... except for rowing maybe)

Look I know its all based on money, but really, I'd just pay the extra 200 dollars and fly Singapore. Its just much much easier. But, If moneys an issue, I suggest TG. And if you fly Via Frankfurt, You mght get on th newly painted TG B744 with new fittings, though not sure for economy class

You know... I love you for saying this If SQ is still "only" 200 USD more when I decide to book, there's no doubt who I'll be flying now. I want to fly SQ again, they did a great job on getting me to Melbourne last year and I absolutely love them!

If SQ is too much (they're only just 200 USD more because of the special offer. Without the special offer thing, the current price for CPH-SIN roundtrip is 4000 USD on ECONOMY), I'll go SK.

Without the possibility of PTV, TG is out of the question as my eyesight is really bad and I can't wear glasses for too long.

Thanks so much for your help!

                              Hi Janni,

Where did you get that USD 4,000 quote?

I went to www.singaporeair.com and found a return ticket in September CPH-SIN-CPH for DKK 7,141 or approximately USD 1,210, EUR 960 or GBP 660. This is an Internet only price but it's not a promotion. Seems like a decent price to me especially considering SQ's outstanding service.

In www.thaiairways.com I found this quote DKK 7,194. Apparently, marginally more expensive.

Perhaps you'll even be able to get a better price in a travel agent.

However, I found a quote in www.scandinavian.net of DKK 5,597 or approximately USD 948, EUR 752 or GBP 517.

                              Cheers.
