  • Last flights of ANA 747SR in Japan.

I was wondering if someone had any dates for when the last two remaining 747SR will be retired from the ANA fleet. I believe it will be this year sometime.

The reason I ask, is that there is one 747SR flight per week from Kagoshima to Tokyo each Saturday. However after Saturday July 30th, the 747SR will be replaced with a 777-300.

Out of coincidence I am heading to Tokyo that weekend and managed to book a seat on the 747SR.

I was wondering if I was booked on one of the last flights.

Also, has anyone here ever flown on a 747SR?

    Thanks
    YBBN - James

    Are you excited about 773?

I'd rather fly on a 747 than a 777 any day. Especially since ANA 777-300s are jamed with 525 seats. It's much more fun to walk around in a jumbo during flight.

Yes, I flew an ANA 747SR from Tokyo to Wash. DC not long after they started that route. Sorry, I don't remember the year or much about the flight since I was returning to settle some unpleasant business.
Might have been 1990 or 1991.

747SR can fly on non-stop or stopover?

I guess it must have been an SP.

It could not have been an SP as ANA did not operate the type. Perhaps it was a 747-281B. They look identical to the SR from the outside.

But I agree that the SR does not have the range for a non-stop NRT-Washington flight. They were mainly used on domestic flights with the occasional flight to Hong Kong and other Asian cities.
