Getting to airport, check in
At 5:00am, I woke up, and showered. I finished packing, and ate breakfast. At about 7:00am, I hit the road to head to Scott Air Force Base to get to the metro link to ride to STL. I got a bit lost on route 158, trying to find the road leading into the station. I called my dad, stopped at a gas station and finally they both directed me to the right place. I arrived at promptly about 9:15am. I parked the car, unloaded my bags and went to the ticket station to buy my ticket. It was one way, 1.50. Not bad! I boarded the Metro link, and at 9:30am it left for STL, with multiple stops along the way. We arrived into STL at 11:00am. I was a bit worried now, as I did not expect the train to take so long to get to the airport. I got off, and followed the signs to the Southwest Terminal. I went through the doors, went to a Kiosk Machine, checked in and it spit out a B boarding card. I walked up to the counter and asked why I could not check in for my PHX-LAX-PHX segment and she said that it had to be 4 hours or less before, and it was quite a ways. So I said ok, and walked to security. The guy in front of me had his son who seemed about 19 or 20. The kid seemed a bit not “wise”, I wouldn’t say retarded, but he was very slow in what he was doing and saying and thinking. It took him awhile to get him through security, and he had to empty his pockets, and boy he had quite a few metal rings and such in his pocket. He also had a pocket knife in there that the TSA guys confiscated. And the poor guy I felt so sorry for him, he mumbled incoherently, “but that’s my favorite knife”. And he seemed quite sad to give it up, and the father pleaded. I felt so bad for him, and the TSA guys were snickering at him and whispering comments and it pissed me off. So I “ahemed” really loud and glared at them and warned them to shut it. They got the message. I had started to say to the kid that he could go back up to Southwest and check it in a box like AA had done for me with my mom’s pocketknife, but it was too late. The poor guy, really did feel for him. After they had gone through, I went next, and I put my cell phone and wallet and everything in my bag. I walked through with my boarding pass in my hand and out of nowhere my cell phone started ringing while it was going through the machine. It startled me and the TSA guys and they grabbed my bag and asked what was in it. I was trying not to laugh and said it’s my cell phone, it just rang, someone must be calling me. He looked at me weirdly and said “all right”. I got the rest of my bags, and it was my parents who had called me. They left a voicemail, I checked it, and went to Burger King to grab some lunch. I sat down by the far end of the E terminal and snapped a pic of a NWA DC-9.

Taxing to runway 30L. Was one of the last take offs for the day on R 30L, the rest moved to the other side, 12 R, and L.
STL Airport, pics and descriptions
After I snapped that picture I went to my gate, and got a pre-boarding pass due to my hearing impairment, I like to pre board on WN so the F/A can be known of my impairment, I can show them where I am sitting before anyone else gets on and they understand my situation and I ask of them if there is an emergency to let me know. After that was done I walked a bit around the E Terminal, snapping more pics.

WN 733 at the gate, boarding passengers

Taxing away, about to head to R 12R.
I decided to head to the D and C concourse and check on the update. D concourse has REALLY improved. I was very pleased with the concourse. It is very clean, swept, and it is a bit dark and gloomy and naturally no traffic anywhere in regards to passengers or flights, but it is cleaned up. That was very good to see, and snapped some pics for you guys to see.

D gates, D-24-29. Looking well cleaned up, which is a major plus!

more D gates, looking at an old AA connection gate. Sad to think 757’s and MD80’s once graced these gates.
After going through the D gates, I ventured to the C concourse. Let me say here, for once it is looking better, we have the new CNBC store open…

Apologies for the blurriness, no matter how many times I took it, it became blurry.
Once I got past C-27 *shudder* It was horrible, and completely put a sad face on me. I wondered why the D concourse was so clean, they moved all the chairs to the C concourse!!!

As you can see, they moved quite a bit of the chairs into the int’l gate areas. No flags
. Quite the sudden change for sure from the old TWA days. No passengers anywhere in sight past gate C-27. I was apaulled at the place.
Walking back, I couldn’t find a single 757 at any gate. Strange! All MD80’s and the usual RJ’s as well. I ventured back to E Terminal, and walked around a bit and soon it got time for the WN plane from PHX to land so I thought id head up to catch it.
Boarding, take-off
The plane landed from PHX at 12:45pm. I thought oh wow, we are close to boarding they better hurry and get the rest off the plane if they want to make it out on time. Well this never happened. Everyone got off by 12:55pm. They announced for pre-boarding, and this boy wouldn’t get on I think. So it delayed us quite a bit. No one else could get on until he was settled I think. So they had to call his mom back to the airport, and she had to coax him back on the plane. This took forever. Finally we started boarding the rest at 1:25pm. That is sad, we are supposed to TAKE OFF at 1:20pm. I got on board, went to my seat 17F, and put my stuff away. I walked to the F/A and introduced myself and explained my situation as I stated earlier. She was extremely cute, and when she heard my situation she said “Do you want me to do a one on one safety procedure with you so you can understand?” as for me, I thought oh damn, a hot girl..asking me for a one on one procedure..
..I said “as tempting as the thought is, no thanks. I fly enough I can probably do it with you, but thank you, just alert me if there is an emergency and that’s all I need your help on.” She said “not a problem, thanks for bringing it to our attention!” I said “no worries, ill be in 17F if you need me” I sat down, and snapped pictures.

our winglet on our wing

I snapped this earlier, and now it was taxing…
We all finished boarding, and then we left the gate. The F/A did the procedures, and the Pilot stated “Ladies and Genteleman we have been cleared to take off, so F/A please be seated and we will be ready to go momentarily” (if those are wondering how I can understand the Pilot when I just stated my reason for pre-boarding its because I am asking the passenger sitting next to me.) We taxied very fast to R-12 R, and we didn’t even slow, we just took straight off! We turned right, and flew near STL, and then continued west onward for PHX!

In flight!
Service went great!! Food, snack packs were distributed immediately, and they asked us our drink orders. I got a full can of coke, all the F/A were all smiles, and very involved with the customers. There isn’t much else to tell through the flight. Looked outside and got some clouds and storms passing through. We did have a scary moment. It was for me. We are cruising along, no big deal. Out of nowhere what it felt like was someone pushed the plane down, and then the pilot pulled it right back up. Not even 2 or 3 seconds that moment lasted. Then out of nowhere a HUGE shadow over flew the plane, I heard a rumble and looked up and saw ANOTHER Southwest plane flying RIGHT over us, it was so close I saw the reg which was N36XSW, I can’t remember the rest. I was SHOCKED! I thought holy crap THAT WAS CLOSE!! Some may be saying oh puh lease im sure he had to be at least 1,000 feet away. But it seemed damn close, and the contrails went right over us, and it was scary. I got a pic of it flying away , but much farther in the distance.

[b] it is obviously farther away, but I didn’t have time to take it while it was close, moved way to fast for me and certainly unexpected.

We pre-boarded and I mentioned to the F/A my situation again, as before, appreciated me giving them a heads up, etc etc. I sat down in 17F again. I laid back, and my seat mate was a grandmother visitng her daughter and new granddaughter near LAX. She was very nice, and we had a pleasant chat almost the entire flight. Was amazed at all the traveling I had set myself up to. Everyone else boarded we had a PHX based crew, and it was flying PHX-LAX-SJO-RNO. We taxied to runway 7L. We shot off, and just headed straight for quiet awhile. Got some pictures in flight. I asked for water and that was it.

TOUCHDOWN!! I AM NOW IN LAX, CALIFORNIA!!!!
So I was finally excited to see all these int’l airlines all at the same place. It was amazing! I was snapping away like CRAZY!!!
Again I will let the pics speak for themselves.

I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS IN PERSON!!!

Again, first time I saw this in person as well!
We parked at the gate, and I got off and walked around LAX. When I had booked this I had hoped to be able to meet Ryan Cruz (Canyon Blue) but unfortunately, it couldn’t happen. I walked around trying to find a Kiosk machine to check in. Nothing. I talked to tommyalf on my phone thru txt, and cbami18 but he never replied (dumb fool
) anyway..we had our signals mixed I couldn’t get his messages and neither could he. I went to the gate my LAX-PHX flight was leaving from and as I was standing I saw in the distance the CHINA AIRLINES 744 landing with the new Boeing 787 color scheme! Hot damn! I snapped a picture of it, got it right when it touched down, smoky landing!

Then it was my turn, and I asked for a boarding pass. She was confused by my itinerary and was wondering how I got thru security, lol. I explained what I did and she said “I had to ask” haha. She printed out my boarding pass, and the pre boarding card as well.

Sat down in 17F again. I looked out the window to watch traffic come and go while everyone else boarded. Saw a VSA346 land, and AA 738, NWA 753, Air Canda A320 or A319 in the new colors, saw some planes take off. It was amazing at the diversity, unlike STL which is WN 737, AA MD80, WN 737, AA MD80, you get the point
. Everyone finished boarding , F/A did the safety stuff. We taxied to a runway. Revved up and we took off. We flew over the ocean. That was amazing, right into the sunset, I loved it!

Turning back to land for PHX.
That was all the pictures I could get. I declined service, and I fell asleep. Slept for about 30 minutes. I was really wiped out from all the take off and landing and I still had one more long leg to do Sunday, PHX-STL, Back home!! Haha. I woke up by a jolt, im guessing turbulence. We started the approach for PHX. We turned and turned, and turned till finally we were landing into the west. We landed on R 25L. PHX again!! We taxied to gate C-17. I called my aunt to tell her I arrived. I met her in security. And we went home to her house. I was WIPED out!!! This ends the TR!! Hope you enjoyed it!
Saturday I got to meet a member of jetphotos.net, NOTAR520AC. We met at one of the Scottsdale Mall, and we had a great time. We walked around for a bit catching up, and he showed me around. We grabbed lunch. These hot girls were checking us out. I kid you not . I reading her lips and she kept whispering about “these guys” thatd be us
. Anyway..haha they left, and we got up and walked around and chatted about everything, mostly plane stuff. And our friends and comparison of my town to Scottsdale. We had an amazing time, he got to meet my aunt and cousins, and we all had fun shopping together. It was a great time Justin, glad we got to meet and get together!
