American Airlines is bringing back an awards program for short routes, officials announced Monday.
American, a unit of Fort Worth, Texas based AMR Corp. (NYSE: AMR - News), is the top airline at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport in terms of passenger volume.
Kurt Stache, president of the airline's marketing programs, says that the business received "overwhelming" customer response for the program last year and decided to bring it back because of that.
Last year, more than 80,000 short-hop awards were claimed.
The awards are for flights that are nonstop routes under 750 air miles one way within the continental United States and Canada.
In exchange for going on short-haul flights, the airline requires fewer award miles, Stache says, such as 15,000 miles, instead of the standard 25,000 miles.
From Wichita, qualifying cities would be Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago.
So now you can rack up on the frequent flyer miles!
