  • Time machine re-incarnates into a classic...

737-200 on the first leg of another trip, have a good flight, your comments welcome.

    Alain

    20th August 1993
    Boeing 737-222, F-GCSL, 19066/69, (196, Euralair. C21Y75.
    Paris/Orly South-Saragossa
    15.45 / 17.25
    RN 115
    Captain Miellot

The service was operated daily on a triangular pattern, aka ORY-ZAZ-MAD-ORY and boarding was called on at 15.35, and reaching the old lady was by a short ride by bus and airstairs. Soon after along with 3 business and 38 economy fellow travellers, we sat on our blue leathered seats. mine was 03F. The TV sets were showing the already fledging EuroNews' lattest news avialable but were still mute. Meanwhile a Croatia 737-230 was taxying past us.
Engines were spooled at 15.42 and a mere two minutes later, the 737 was on her way out. The area proved busy enough to wait until 15.54 when we rotated from runway 25/07.
In flight service first consisted of distributing the headsets for the TV features and then snack and drinks materialized in due course. Descent was initiated at 16.56 while maping out the Pyrenean mountains. Finals came next at 17.08 and we were offered a nice overfly of the city. I tried my best to figure out where was the Lost Manuscript of Saragossa which inspired the title of a classic movie, but off course I failed partly due to the extensive area of the location

Upon those unvoiced conjectures, the 737 went on her way towards the runway

On which she touched down at 17.15 concluding in the process an 1 hrs 21 stint airborne. We then taxied past the airforce base main residents of which are some Fuerza Aerea Espanola F.18s Hornets. And when reaching our stand, an Aviaco DC.9-30 was about to leave.

Eight fellow passengers disembarked. The stop was spent on board Sierra-Lima and I was granted the permission to trade my leathered seat with the jumpseat. Still with RN115 as flight number, the 737-222 was duly prepared by Captain Miellot and First Officer Hervouet for the second leg while two O&D Madrid bound passengers joined us.

    ZAZ-MAD, 191 nm, 17.45/18.25. 18,700 gallons in tanks.
Spooling up the engines was completed at 17.42 and two minutes later, taxi past the FAE F.18s came next. Various checklists were conducted and the flaps were set at 25°. We rotated at 17.47 at a speed of 170 knots.
Climbing to FL190 was made in virtually no time and I took the opportunity to picture F/O Hervouet at work.

Speed hovered between 270 and 300 knots
    Descent : 18.04
Some more checklists culminating in setting the flaps at 40° and gear down and locked in anticipation of the finals, at 18.15 and landing at 18.19 at a speed of 145 knots concluding a 32 minute dash in our 737's true world.
We soon vacated the runway and a follow-me, Siga-Me in original version, car drove to meet us. Finished in yellow overall and showing up in the familiar shapes of the Ford Escort hatchback sedan, the latter was visibly fighting versus the scortching 40°+ temp outside. Eventually, we reached the gate at 18.26, but the Ford had it enough and showed it amid heavy clouds of black smoke ! more seriously, 14,000 gallons were still in tanks when Captain Miellot and F/O Hervouet shut off the engines. Next and final item on their agendas was the leg back to Orly as RN116.

    Till the next

Hey Alain. thank you very much for letting us experience the flight with you.

This is the best report I have read from you. Love the details like what degrees were on the flaps, how many knots, Finals ETA and landing and such one. Fabolous Alain.

Nice to see you still got the details.
