  • jetBlue: BUF-JFK-BUF: July 4/5

    July 4th
    jetBlue Flight 23
    Airbus A320-232
    N562JB
    Seat 13A
    Scheduled/Actual Departure Time: 6:15/6:16
    Scheduled/Actual Arrival Time: 7:25/7:25

    Checkin

    We(Me and my parents) arrived at BUF at around 5am for out 6:15 flight out. Checkin was a breeze, only around 5 or so people were in line so it didn't take too long. After checkin we flew right through security checkpoint and i headed off around the terminal while my parents got a cup of coffee. I found any photography at all to be impossible due to it still being relatively dark outside and the windows for producing some mad-ass glare. So after around a half and hour we headed to our gate and astonishingly found that they were already in the boarding process around a half an hour before the scheduled departure.

    The Flight

    Once at our gate, we awaited our turn to board, looking out the window I saw that out plane was in the new "Super Dots" tail scheme. Boarding when very smoothly, as i got on the jetway i was handed a headset for use with thier PTV's. Once i got on the plane i headed straight to the cockpit and chatted with the pilots for about 5 or 10 minutes, i found out that this flight for N562JB was only its 67th leg. So after the chat i headed to my and much to my dismay was directly in the middle of the wing(im never letting my mom make the reservations again).

    We then pushed back almost perfectly on time and headed to runway 23 for our departure. On the taxi out I saw an Airborne DC-9 land. To my suprise there was nobody in front of us for take-off so the pilot never even stopped, just turned around and cranked 'em up. We quickly leveled off at 24,000 and beverage/snack service began. I took a glass of orange juice and some Oero cookies as the flight continued on to JFK...

    [photoid=114409]

    We weren't at cruise altitude for very long, mabye 15 minutes if that...we quickly began out descent into JFK and the pilots deployed the speedbrakes for the longest time...

    [photoid=114414]

    It was the most annoying thing being on the left side of that plane. There was nothing but sun out that window for most of the flight. But anyway, the pilots swong her around for an approach to JFK's runway 31R. It was a very hazy and foggy morning, there was alot of condensation coming off the wing on final approach.

    And god, i thought this one wing flap were going to fall off the plane, it just never stopped shaking all approach. Touchdown wasn't the softest one i've ever had. The thrust reversers kicked in right away and the airplane quickly slowed to a crawl. We then had to wait around 5 minutes to get into our gate as there was a United 767 blocking the alleyway between Terminals 6 and 7. I then quickly disembarked for the aircraft and much to my dismay found myself in Terminal 6. The terminal was a dump. Every window was either blocked by a jetbridge or another aircraft. Half of the terminals didn't even have windows period. well that screwed my plans to get a shot of the Concorde. We then got out of there as fast as we could and into a taxi. I swear it never did less than 80 on the way to my hotel...

    July 5th
    jetBlue Flight 10
    Airbus A320-232
    N527JB
    Seat 26A
    Scheduled/Actual Departure Time: 20:05/20:26
    Scheduled/Actual Arrival Time: 21:30/21:40

    Checkin

    Much was the same as last flight..checkin went were smoothly. We did encounter a very short line at security. But they only one metal detector running so it took about 15 minutes. While in line i was able to catch a glimse of a British Airways 747-400(Shot Rejected) and the Star Alliance 767(Shot also rejected) and the tail of the Concorde. I bairley tried to get pictures once we were through security. Could see nothing other than jetbridges out most of the windows.

    The Flight

    We began boarding around half an hour before departure again and i went and spent my typical 10 minutes in the cockpit. I was scheduled to sit in seat 14F, again, directly over the wing. But i did a little quick talking with the flight attendant and found out that row 26 was completely vacant. I had a bit of a dilema on which side to sit at for departure. First I sat down on the right side...

    [photoid=114437]

    But then quickly jumped over to the left as i saw take-offs and landing being conducted on 31R. I then settled into my seat over there. Just after scheduled departure time the flight attendant announced over the PA that a passenger had left a bag at the security checkpoint and had to go back and get it. It was a ten minute delay and a likely story but hey, there was nothing i could do. But then for departure murphy's law set in and we departed off of runway 31L. Meaning I had a view of nothing but water during departure. But i was lucky being on the left side as i did nail a sweet sunset shot...

    [photoid=114442]

    As the sun set i then put the camera away, sat back and enjoyed the pleasure of the PTV's, i took advantage of an empty seat next to me and tuned into the inflight map on the seat while i kept my own tuned to the Pepsi 400. Beverages/Snacks were then seing served. I got a full, yes full can of Coke and a few Oreo cookies. The flight was smooth during cruise but was VERY rough during descent. We mowed through a few CB's on our descent down. As for touchdown, well yes, i was treated to another hard touchdown. I saw the runway and the ground to be very wet as the CB we went through of descent had just left Buffalo. We used up almost all of runway 23 on landing.

    Baggage Retrieval

    Yeah, it's probably pretty strange that i made a section for this. But we then got down to carasoul 2 to find out that 4 flights were on this single carasoul. We stood for about 10 minutes before bags started coming out. All the bags kept jamming the carasoul so it took even longer, not to mention our two bags were one of the last ones to come out.

    Good trip report, your right about term 6 it is a dump. The checkin area and the area directly after the security checkpoint isn't bad the but the waiting areas haven't changed since TWA and National used the terminal, even some of old TWA colors dawn the walls and waiting areas.
