  • QF vs. BA vs. VS

So the time has come where I shall be booking my tickets to Downunderland, and Qantas and Virgin have pretty similar prices. I can also pick to fly BA on one of the Qantas legs.

I'd love to fly the 744, so unless VS's economy service is absolutely OUTSTANDING compared to QF's, I'll be flying Qantas.

And how about BA? Should I decide to fly Qantas, should I pick BA on one of the legs?

If I pick Qantas/BA (or just qantas), I'll fly CPH-LHR on BA, and LHR-SYD on QF32 (then possibly BA on the way back. Or the other way around). I have some questions however:

    - IFE. Of course Virgin beats Qantas/BA by a mile here, but what exactly does QF and BA offer? AVOD or..?

    - Service. Including food, etc.

-What seat should I request (on the B744. I don't care about shorthauls.)?

I'll need very good reasons to fly VS as the airline has some kind of "bad vibe" with me at the momment. But of course, I'll listen to you and your experiences if you have any.

    I'll be booking tomorrow

AHH... QF vs BA.....been there, done that, about to do it again. I flew MAN-LHR-MEL-ADL last year, BA on the way out, QF on the way back. The answer to the question is that QF beats BA handsdown, especially when it comes to the 744 economy decision. The seats on QF are better, the food is better, the crew is better the whole product is better...definately no way to BA.

I'm about to head down to OZ again the week after next and i'm booked on QF2, so i'll be able to tell you what it's like. I'm on half QF, half BA ticket flights, but all operated by QF and am doing LHR-SYD-ADL on a 744 and 333, then ADL-SYD-LHR on a 73H and a 744. Shouldn't be too bad.

Awesome, James! I decided to try both- QF on the way there and BA on the way back. What's the IFE like? I've wondered, because some people say it's AVOD, others say it's not :/

Anyway, flight info is like this:

            CPH - LHR:

            LHR - BKK - SYD:

            SYD - CBR:

            CBR - SYD:

            SYD - BKK - LHR:

            LHR - CPH:

            Can't wait

James, should I take that as an offer to write a trip report? If so, yes please and thank you!

I know I'll write one- photos and all

IFE on BA...AVOD - u gotta be kidding!! (No AVOD)

QF...seems to depend. I didn't have it on the 744 but did on the 333.

I booked it through a travel agent called "travelstart"- but there's an amazing page called www.checkmytrip.com - quite useful, but only seems to work with some travelagents or if you book through the airline directly

AVOD is progressively being activated on the Qantas Boeing 747-400s.

While there is a chance your QF 744 flight will have AVOD, there is probably an equal chance the system will have some problems. Seems to be quite a few bugs in the system they need to sort out.

I wanted to, but after an "accident" with a VS employee, I'd rather not fly VS right now
