Sorry I was a bit light on for technical details.... during those years my concerns were:

    - how fast the a/c would reach jump height,
    - how high it would take us (17,000 AGL in Indonesia - 75 seconds in freefall per jump!! In the Hercs at least)
    - and whether or not it had a tail ramp..... nothing like those for exiting!

Just checked my photos - and sure enough the Transall was painted in civilian trim.. white with some red stripe add-ons...

I beleive the CASA's were locally built under license?

The stretched Hercs were IIRC obtained from the UK - or modified there at least... we did one jump with a second a/c in formation - it had an IMAX camera filming out the side door....

Took 120 jumpers per sortie in those.......and on the last jump of the day (The "sunset load") we'd fly at 12,000 above Kuta Beach... and groups would get out in an order based on which hotel they were staying at... we'd land on the beach opposite the hotels! Well, most of us... there was always one who'd land IN the hotel pool..... (Typical skydivers.......)

    Interesting list
    Some profiling
C.160s = I bet on PELITA, as neither the TNi-AN nor Merpati had them in the inventory.
They took up two aircrafts delivered new I guess
    C.130-H30
If windowless typical ones, bet the farm on TNI-AN (the airforce)
If with windows, ahaha, you flew then on a very rare bird in the shapes of one of the two ever operated by MERPATI Nunsantara
CN-212, the most challenging as everybody mentioned had them on fleet inventory one day or another !

started a topic What Military aircraft have you flown on?

What Military aircraft have you flown on?

Ive been lucky enough to get on a number of flights (as a civi) with the RNZAF (Royal New Zealand Air Force). Been on a couple of Herc flights, the old 727 when they were still in service, Hueys, King Airs (same aircraft our Prime Minister and other VIPs get flown around NZ in) and a couple of times on Orions. The most memorable was an Orion flight where the Captain let me jump in the right hand seat and take the controlls for about 10 mins.

So just wondering what military aircraft others have flown on (as a civilian)??
Working...
